Despite all of the negativity, it is my personal opinion that if you want to solo, solo, but don't complain when you can't solo something that was clearly designed for group play. An example of this was Great Buffalo before the nerfs. If you can solo him, great! Good Job! But if you can't, don't demand a nerf of the NM because a group of 4 people can take him down easily and you can't because you decided to solo something that was at a group content level.

I played alot of games with mixed aspect such as WoW. WoW caters to group and solo'ers. The communities also suck. Same with Aion. Same for dcuo. In WoW i wanted to do content with other player, and I got shot down with "you can solo it" Same in Aion. I find soloing boring, and found meself being forced to solo in these mmo.

Most new mmo comming out do not understand to roots of the mmorpg. Which are online communities. Where you can chat and meet people. Most solo'ers i met are infact anti-social they refuse to join in any group content if they are needed. Which is the vib thedevilsjester is giving off. Which is something I hate. Sorry but I have never seen a good mmo woth a good mmo community that had content for both solo'ers and groups.

Also if you want to play mmo with solo content I suggest WoW or Aion, or star wars the old republic (when its launched). But final fantasy has always been a game about grouping and team work. Not about a singular player persay.

Also, I would like to point out that I am in no way a "solo player" in MMO's. I love taking down hard content with other people. It is fun and rewarding.

My post was not from my point of view. It was directed at the 100000000000 posts on this subject where someone was completely baffled by solo play. All I did was explain the draw of MMOs extends far past "Playing with other people is the reason to play."

Also, i would like to point out that the reason I don't mind arguing it from both sides (like most topics on this forum) is because I am alright with different people being different. It's a good thing.

Come on Kilta you can do better then be another separatist hate monger.
ummm i never made a comment about you.... I only commented on anty and thedevilsjester. Which are giving off a bratty vibe.
Idm a person playing solo. But if their additude is anti-social, pretty much not wanting to do group content at all.

I agree that FF games have always been group based, but you can't get that across to some people. They see FFXI and FFXIV as "just another MMO" instead of a FF MMO.

Couldn't agree with you more. If a company takes this approach to solving solo+party content, then they're doing it completely wrong. Fortunately the NM nerfs weren't about catering to soloists wanting to beat these, but an unnecessary adjustment due to new maximum party sizes. The funny thing was, you could beat them with 8 people before that nerf anyway.

It's unfortunate that you've had so many bad exchanges with soloists in the past. That hasn't been my experience as I've met many more soloists who are helpful, and contribute to the community and linkshell. You shouldn't push soloists off to other games though, that's not the answer. Final Fantasy has always been about teamwork, you're right, but that doesn't mean S-E shouldn't respect the changing gaming community. They have to keep with the times, or risk losing business to other companies.

    Dear S-E,
Your s#!% has improved, but it's not quite there yet...you might want to see to that.
    Thanks.

I find it funny most people here do not understand how multi player works in an rpg. It isn't like fps shooters. It does infact mean grouping. But more importently mmorpg are about COMMUNITIES not just your character in a large world. If everyone solo'ed in an mmorpg the economy would be non existant. Everyone would be self sufficant. Which isn't how the game is suppose to work we are suppose to work toge5ther as a community. Not solo because you dislike grouping. Which is so far all I read from TDJ. Sorry but mmorpg are not JUST about being in a large world with 1000s of players. It is being in a world with 100s of players to play with, go on adventures with. Working together as a community.

But all in all This is a Final fantasy mmo, which has ALWAYS been about grouping. Rpg multiplayer is different then multiplayer ingemeral. More so with Final Fantasy.
Sorry but do not start drama over the fact you chose a final fantasy mmo which though solo friendly, is mostly about grouping.

If you like to play alone....

...why did you decide to play an MMO?

I enjoy a bit of both. Personal preference: I like to train solo, but kill bigger things as a group. I'm not against grouping with others, in fact I love being social, but sometimes you do want to go off and do your own thing. One thing I hated about XI was that it was a little bit too group oriented.

It's a really hard thing to balance b/c if you allow everyone to solo everything, chances are no one will want to group together. Why make the effort if you can do it yourself. On the other hand, if you make things too hard, the people who enjoy doing things on their own are screwed and will be forced to pair up on things they need done.

Really what I'm hoping for is that they keep the casual play such as smaller quests, leveling, crafting, minor nm's and the such easily soloable, but they add in tougher content/events/endgame that require a group effort in order to complete.

@ arc the thing is they still need to be true to their franchise and not always jump the bandwagon. Like Elder scrolls. Most rpg now have multiplayer aspects (aka co op) Yet they are sticking with its roots.
I applaud SE for not selling out their most popular franchise to "change with the times" FF is about teamwork that is the courner stone. Why should it even be labled final fantasy.
Sorry but A line needs ta be drawn at some point. Imo i hate the way mmorog are being made. They are going more solo and leaving group content as a side note. ff has been the only mmorpg made recently to keep to its true mmorpg roots. Which is community play. Solo or otherwise.

I'm not against solo'ers as I had my moments of wanting to solo. But i am againsts those who demand change to an already dieing ganre. Just because they act snobby and not pro community.
