The biggest issue with the Heavy Darklight is the only crafted alternative is Heavy Darksteel, which also can't be split into helm/chest and pants/boots. This really screws over tanks that are trying to break their HDL with Myth/Allagan gear, whereas every other class can replace the non i90 slot with an i70 crafted item.
I believe they have 2 different teams for gear, I don't imagine the same team that made dragoon gear designing the Titan weapons, I know this is about the heavy darklight gear design, but they should kick the guy who is designing that stuff, just look at the titan bow, that's the ugliest bow that I ever seen in the games that I played, not even WoW had that clumsy gear design, but my main point here would be to start making good designs so we don't have to use vanity slots, in FFXI you would wear the gear that you earned in those hard fights and quest and people would notice what you have done just by looking your gear, so im a bit against to add vanity slots...
Unfortunately, there are no plans to separate the head portion of darklight armor or visibly remove it from the body piece.

I'll be happy if no new "tin can" armor is added to the game.
I hate all the tin can armors as much as the next guy, but its ridiculous to want them to redo art assets to separate the head and body piece instead of just working on new armors to be added in upcoming updates.

It's 8x easier to edit an art asset and export it a few times than it is to create one. Heck, i can make a yt video doing that in a few mins... and you wonder why we're getting extreme and probably hard extreme and extreme extreme extreme ifrit/titan/garuda before we actually see a normal Leviathan/Ramuh/Anything relevant.I'll be happy if no new "tin can" armor is added to the game.

Sweet Jesus, YES! Please no more of this horrible armor model. I skipped every version of heavy armor during the leveling process just because I couldn't bear to look at it anymore after getting the heavy iron body. I cringe every time I look at my toon in that awful black and red monstrosity. If you can't/won't fix it, at least never use that model ever again.

Why oh why did they make Darklight and Heavy Darksteel both locked? It's so great to get the Allagan Chest, your first piece of Allagan from turn one, and you have to go back to Hoplite because there are no other helms to pick from since both ilevel 70 options are locked.
If you have the Allagan chest, then you have a few options, all of them would still be better than darklight. Why oh why did they make Darklight and Heavy Darksteel both locked? 1. You can use the AF head piece (it is still actually better when combined with the Allagan top, stats and defense wise).
2. If you have the Mythology points you can go and get the Valor head piece, it is actually slightly better than the Allagan as it has more accuracy. (You swap crit for Parry with the allagan head). Otherwise they are identical stat wise.
3. You can farm up an AK Hoplight Circlet which is a good inbetween piece between the AF and Allagan.
In the end you have better stats than the Darklight hands down and you can show your face/hair. Win Win if you ask me.
The Darklight and Darksteel is just meant to be an Interrum piece and may soon be replaced with Crystal Tower.
This Darklight and Darksteel set has been around since early 1.0 do I would not expect they would prioritize changing/ redesigning this armor that will just get replaced with just about anything new.
Hope that helps.
Because there's something called Crystal Tower; where the head/chest pieces are (if I remember correctly) were separated, and meant to be the bridge between Darklight and Coil. Why oh why did they make Darklight and Heavy Darksteel both locked?
