A few questions from a new player.

Ive been playing for about 3 days now and am really enjoying FF XIV. But have a few things I'm getting frustrated about, maybe someone could help me with these.

1.) Targeting. I get frustrated when in a large fight (FATE) and there are lots of other players around. I find it difficult trying to target an enemy by clicking on them with my mouse because a lot of times I end up clicking on other players and not enemies. Is there a way to automatically attack the closest enemy? I see there's the auto attack hot key but I still have to select the target with my mouse.

2.) I'm a maurader and want good magic resistance as well as good physical resistance. Aside from buying armor that lowers my physical resistance in order to up my magical resistance how can I make my magic res better, without sacrificing physical res?

3.) Last (for now, lol), when my 30 day trial is up will it notify me on how to make payements for the monthly fee automatically?

    Thanks for your time guys/gals!

    1) Tab is default to cycle through things. You can play with filters for it in the character customization menue I believe. Note though that when you dont have a target it will target the closest, but while cycling it still kinda sucks.

    2) not sure myself, I only leveled to 15 for my job requirement. I would assume you get cool downs to help with that.

    3) SE will email you a few days prior to the end of your 30 days and tell you what to do. I believe you go into the mog station.

Most gear that's specifically tank armor (Usually only wearable by GLA/MRD/PLD/WAR) will have high stats in both physical AND magic defense. For the time being though, stick to the melee armor until you hit the levels where you start seeing tank stuff

    1) Go to Menu -> Character Configuration -> Filters and set up your filters to only target enemies, party members, players, etc. That should help considerably when tabbing. The picture provided is for a controller, but it also applies to mouse and keyboard

    2) Tank armor, specific for gladiator and marauder has equally high magic and physical defense stats. Your first set is the bronze cuirass, bronze celata, padded hempen trousers, bronze sabaton, and bronze mitts at lvl15. You can generally see the item stats and if it says gld/mrd only, it will have high magic and phys defense.

    3) Chronos covered it. Mog station.

You can use F11 to target nearest enemy, but I don't use KB/Mouse so I don't know how useful that is.

Thanks for the help! I'm glad to see that I can target only enemies as well as scroll targeting. This is going to make larger battles so much easier. Also, one more quick question.

When I'm at a high enough level to start leveling as a black smith or armorer what do I need to do? Aside from joining the proper guild to do so all I would need to do is equip a tool of that trade, buy materials to smith a certain item and equip clothing that helps with the job?

If you want to dabble in tradecraft, you should start with CRP, WVR, CUL or GSM. Levelling CRP, WVR and CUL will benefit your crafting overall, when it comes time to level other crafting classes as the skills they give are quite indispensable for high level crafting. GSM and WVR both give you a source of income, and GSM allows you to craft accessories for your class, which are arguably much harder items to obtain from dungeon runs (the only dungeons I know that drop useful accessories are Brayflox's Longstop [Level 32], Cutter's Cry [Level 38], Aurum Vale [Level 47], and Amdapor Keep [Level 50]). CUL also allows you to craft food - if you're a high enough level CUL by the time you get to end-game, you could be a boon for your end-game raid party, as people use food for Binding Coil of Bahamut. Shards for all crafting classes can be costly however, especially if you can't buy in bulk, as it seems they only sell them in the Marketboards in 500's or 1000's.

Running dungeons regularly will keep you sufficiently geared, and as a tank you should have little to no problems getting into a dungeon party. If you choose the FATE grind method, you can spend the seals for Grand Company gear from time to time.

Yeah, pretty much. The NPCs at the guild will sell cheap materials for up to around level 15. You will also get new tools every 5 levels from the crafter quests, but as blacksmith you will probably be able to make your own as well.

Nice. I figure i'll start out as a weapons smith first then try my luck at being an armorer. I have an interest in fishing in this game as well. What's the benefits in fishing? Just catching fish? I heard you can catch companions and what not as well.

Right now fishing is mostly just there as something on the side to do, although a few fish are crafting materials for some items or foods and yes there are a few minions you can fish up. There have been dev talks about fishing competitions and treasure hunting being added in the future (among other things that I can't remember at the moment) so we will see how they expand on it.
