Good King Moggle Mog a primal?

The most recent blog post says "Though, keep in mind that Good King Moggle Mog isn't a primal!"

The only reason I find this interesting is that I remember people bantering about whether or not mog was a Primal when introduced in 1.0. So I snapped this screenshot which I believed to be the conclusive answer.

Here you can see that Louisoix is clearly of the opinion that Good King Moggle Mog is in fact a primal. Was the blog post mistaken? Does Louisoix not know what he is talking about? What do you guys think?

As far as we know, he was summoned forth from the aether as if he were a primal and he has an insatiable appetite for aether as if he were a primal. Some lines do read as if stating the contrary; some blatantly so ("The primal lies within the bounds of the ward"). However, it's probably best to assume that these were just hastily chosen phrasings (or perhaps it was the NPCs themselves that were mistaken!) considering that both the lore team and Yoshi-P have confirmed that Good King Moggle Mog XII is not a primal. Where it counts, though, even the Version 1.0 quest did draw the distinction.

This is actually one of my inspirations for the theory that primals are thoughtforms - that the aether concentrates and forms whatever we believe will form, and from there it takes on that personality. Anyway, enough of my may-or-may-not-be-true darksteelfoil hat rambling. Funny enough, my evidence also comes from Louisoix...

What we're told by SE's promotional materials is that he's myth made manifest. Moogles have a creation myth that they once dwelled alongside the Twelve in the celestial realm, but the deities' constant war against one another became so violent that the Moogles' king helped them escape to the promised land below - the world of mortals. Though he could lower the others, he could not lower himself, and he was lost. Somehow, they were able to summon him the same way that primals are summoned. What does this mean? Is their creation myth true - did they simply pull him back from a celestial realm? Or is he a thoughtform as my current theory would assume? Who knows! We'll have to look out for new lore snippets in 2.1's version of the fight.

Well, at the very least, during 1.0 it seems at least that he was considered one, especially as this piece of official artwork of the Primals, which shows amongst other things Odin and Bahamut as well as Shiva, also includes in the bottom right corner, unmistakeably, Good King Moggle Mog the XII.

Personally, because of the existence of that artwork I think that at the very least, until recently the development team actually really did regard him as the Moogle Primal, but, have since changed their minds and retconned it that he isn't actually one, thus confusing 1.0 players and contradicting that piece of artwork.

So why did they change their minds? Well, I guess only Ferne knows the answer to that.

I'm not (by any means) saying that you're wrong, but to base it on the artwork alone might be a mistake at this point in the game. Remember, Odin and Bahamut aren't the same type of primal that Ifrit et al. are, and neither are whatever Good King Moggle Mog, Twelfth of his Name, (may his mighty soul rest in peace) is. SE has been quite vague about the difference between primal, elder primal, myth made manifest, and who the hells else knows what's out there (assuming that there is one beyond convention).

Even in the art he's very tiny, as if to say "we just didn't want to leave him out."

To be completely honest... I didn't notice he was there until you pointed it out ><

I am gonna guess and say the only difference is to squash any hope that you can get a mog summon for summoner, and won't be able to do the major FC summon whenever that comes out.

More than likely he was a primal in 1.0 lore, then they added smn, and are changing the lore.

If the function of Aether is the same as Lifestream, it would stand to reason that all living beings would return there on death. Inconsequential lifeforms, critters, beasts, and even everyday people would be as drops in the ocean, but if someone or something truly powerful joined with the Aether, then it could possibly retain a consciousness as well. Given that moogles are already quite magical beings, their ruler would definitely be powerful enough to qualify given that he can be recalled to and from the Aether. This would bring about a whole host of possibilities in "Aetheric Entities (Aentities?)" being summonable. Shatotto resurrected? This could also be how Xande appears in the Crystal Tower.

All Primals are elementally aligned with one of the six elements.

The Elder Primals are special. Bahamut is non-elemental. Odin is a bit of a mystery, but the options are Lightning (à la FFXIII), Dark and Non-Elemental. Least likely is Lightning and most likely is Non-Elemental.

Good King Moggle Mog is no nothing.

High above the Twelveswood, the raven circles, evermore seeking out truth hidden amongst the shadows of the trees. In today’s edition, field correspondent Oliver Goodfellow delves into the bizarre rumors that have surfaced in Gridania concerning the appearance of a moogle king of myth.

The Legend of Good King Moggle Mog XII

That the moogles are our friends and allies is a fact all Gridanian younglings are raised to know. The relationship, however, has not always been one of amity. It was in the age of Gelmorra, back when the elementals did not suffer our presence in the Twelveswood, that the first contact between man and moogle took place. In the beginning, the moogles saw our ancestors as naught but an odious plague, whose existence served only to wake the elementals’ wrath.

But through great effort, our forbears eventually succeeded in communing with the elementals, and were permitted to abide in the Twelveswood. And with the elementals’ acceptance came the moogles’ grudging respect—a respect which grew into understanding and, over time, friendship. The moogles have since stood staunchly by our side, helping us to further our intimacy with the forest and its mysteries. Without their wisdom and guidance, I daresay Gridania would not have flourished into the great nation it is today.

But how well do we truly know the moogles? For the most part, our winged friends keep to the depths of the Twelveswood, seldom appearing in the city proper. Fellow residents of the forest we may be, but there the similarities come to an abrupt end; from physical appearance to culture and fundamental values, there is precious little we have in common with the moogles. For one, they possess their own unique mythology, separate from that of man.

Of the innumerable tales passed down through their race, there is one which claims prominence above all others: the legend of Good King Moggle Mog XII, which explains the origins of mooglekind. The legend holds that, in a time long forgotten, the moogles dwelled in the heavens alongside the Twelve. However, a great war broke out among the gods, and the celestial realm was laid to waste. Upon seeing this, the reigning moogle monarch, Good King Moggle Mog XII, lowered his subjects down a rope—the longest ever woven—to the realm of mortals, that mooglekind might again know peace. Or so the tale goes.

In contrast, our own histories mention naught of any such conflict among the Twelve, and scholars were unanimous in branding the tale a product of the imagination. Of late, however, events have transpired that serve to cast doubt on that conclusion. Recent moons have seen first-person accounts of encounters with Good King Moggle Mog XII being reported nigh without cease, and even the most orthodox of thinkers have been forced to reconsider their opinions on the matter.

By now, all Gridanians—and most adventurers—will doubtless be familiar with Louisoix, head of the Circle of Knowing, who has journeyed to our nation for no other purpose than to quell the mounting primal threat. The native of Sharlayan has identified the moogle monarch as a primal, whose voracious appetite for aetheric energy could end life as we know it upon Eorzea. Coming from such an authoritative figure as Louisoix, these tidings are grim indeed.

With fears of the Seventh Umbral Era still running rife, the air of tension enshrouding the nation grows ever more palpable. But come what may, you may rest assured in the knowledge that naught takes place that escapes the notice of The Raven.
