Picking a class should have its ups and downs, and unfortunately this time it was down.

Any system that allows the above to happen is a failed and un fun system.
Um no matter what game your playing that can happen, sorry to burst your bubble but if I wanted to tell u to heal atm in this game and stop dding or ill repalce you I could do the same thign its no different ur a healer and should focus on healing. No im not saying thats what id do idc personnely long as no one was dying but im basically saying your way of thinking is flawed cause no matter what game you play if somoen doesnt want you to melee as a mage and wants to replace you cause of that they can thats there choice and no game will ever stop that thats human judgement.

The current armor systems does suck, mainly because crafters have no reason to craft lower lvl gear cause everyone just sa=ays screw it and ill get lvl 48 gear for my lvl 12 mage so now crafters basically dont craft anythign lower lvl and we got torely on friends to get gear if we choose to play by the books and that being the lvl to wear the gear. If you want just to wear gear around town cause it loosk cool fine se should jsut allow it to be wore on any job. but put an 100% penalty on it if its not for your job u get 0 stats from it and its completely useless. That way if someone wants to look cool around town fine they can but when it comes down to playign your job right or playing parties right yes you should care abotu your stats etc, whats the point of having stats and everythign else if people arent gonna care.

The point system is basically 100% useless atm SE's stated it and many many tests peopel have done points it out to be almost completely useless for the most part. Having stat caps means nothing in thsi game I personnely tested stuff on my archer with like 100 str agaisnt others with 150+ str and they were using silver arorws while i used wrapped arrows lvl 1 and u kow what i ws doing 5-10 less dmg per arrow then them. You think thats a good system? you think custmizing your points to 150 str and think its bascially a moot point and having say different lvl arrows with different dmg yet its still compleltely useless cause in my eye having +50 more str and not sure the difference atm of wrapped arrows dmg vs silveer but lets say its 20 more dmg dont u think that should make it the person with better arrows and 150+ str should do better.
The problem there is if they did do that means anyoen who wants to play a mage job would basically suck 100% because they actually let the stat points do something, but because they dont let it do anything its useless. So basically yes atm the current state of point system is utter useless no matter what way you. And no I dont think its fair to make me lvl 2-3 different accounts to be able to play different jobs this isnt wow, se has built on so you can have one account and play any job you want, but they decide to take a different route and failed. Im not sayin they maybe cant fix it mayeb they can but to me if the system is 100% usless ur either better off scrappign it and coming up better idea or you better damn well coem up with some amazing patches to fix it cause currently thsi game is going down the drain faster then any game i ever seen. every patch either makes it worse or better for peoepl to come back or quit atm. And se isnt here to please just 25% of there players otherwise they gonan lose lots of money so if it means scrapping the system 100% to pelase 75% of the current player base they will do it and again sorry to burst your bubble but if 75% of the users dont like system then its not whining in general that means the majority hates the game and majority is what will pay for the game not the 25%, i think se will make more off pleasing the 75% wether those 25% like it or not se is here to make money thats it and there not making shit right now.

A mage has never been able to wear heavy armor and chainmail, sweet lord, what games have you ever played where mages wore mail? I'm dying to know. Did you not play FFXI? From the get go, certain jobs could wear certain armor and were limited by job/class, and that included the melee jobs at level
LOL. You talk like mages exist in reality and they have never been able to wear heavy armor.
1: armor realistically can be worn by anyone. Some people are more trained to wear it, and will receive a certain benefits, others are less, and will receive less benefits. That's what simple logic dictates. It's both realistic and convenient gameplay wise, not to mention the fact that it allows more freedom in looks.
2: There are plenty games, both videogames and pen/paper RPGs, in which there are several caster-types that can wear heavy armor. Your perspective of the genre is, apparently, quite limited by the (probably few) games you played.
3: this is not Final Fantasy XI. There are other games around than Final Fantasy XI.

There's no lack of class uniqueness? Even Yoshi-P has said he feels there isn't any uniqueness!
The fact that he humors the masses doesn't mean that he really thinks that.

How can any job be unique when you can use any traits from other jobs and essentially make them all the same?
Because they're not the same. The class affinity system makes sure that you'll never be as effective as the original class when using a skill with another class. Also, there are further limitations in place, for instance non-caster classes can't cast AOE. Finally, there are evident differences in HP, Mana, Defence, physical attack and such, that makes it so that for instance, a melee class cannot nearly heal as effectively as a caster, simply because he'll run out of mana in 2 minutes flat, and he won't have significant ways to get it back in time.
If you don't know the ins and outs of the system, don't blame it on the system.

Obviously you are in the minority
Luckily Games development is not a democracy.

Look where that got them with 14 when they tried to reinvent the genre, they even said they tried to make the game different on purpose, and it clearly suffered because of that.
What got them where they are has been releasing an unfinished, content-deprieved, unchallenging game. The basic systems, though, are solid, and people would enjoy (and understand) them much more if they were finished and polished, if there was sizable content, and if that such content was challenging enough to test them to the limit.

Classes appear all the same to people lacking insight, because there's NO mobs, out there, that challenges them to their limit, forcing people to stay in the role they are most EFFECTIVE at.

I challenge anyone reading this thread to name ONE group-oriented mob that they find anywhere challenging or difficult to beat in this game.

In a system that features any degree of versatility, there's no need to specialize unless challenge is present. Once challenge is present, people will have to stick to the role they can perform better in order to survive. And be viable.

This isn't a single-player sandbox RPG. If you want a game where you can make any kind of character you want irregardless of the consequences, play Oblivion or something similar.

The problem with having "customization" in an MMO, is that there are always going to be "optimum" builds. Once you figure out what is the best way to Tank and the best way to Deal damage, any other customization is irrelevant. Sure you CAN, but whats the point of doing whatever you want if its going to make the rest of your game experience suck? An MMO is not a field where you do things just because you can.

In FF7 you can overload a character with Summons and bring his HP to 1000 at level 99, but in an MMO world that would never work. You would need MIME, MEGA-All, Quad-Cut, etc... to even be considered a strong character if FF7 were an MMO.

Even if FFXIV were in an ideal world where there were 50 bosses and each needed a unique character build to beat, then you're just making the game difficult to play, because you're looking for so many specific players, it would become unwieldy. A balance would be hard to find with the way FFXIV is currently set up, because of the way stats are assigned...

The whole thing needs to be re-hauled, because none of the pieces work together.

I don't feel we need a complete overhaul of these systems, just minor tweaks.

Example, make the stat points actually have a real, visible effect. If you have higher STR, you should hit harder. End of discussion.

As for the armory, someone on another thread suggested a license-board style setup for gear. It'd be a nice compromise, people could wear whatever their heart desires so far as they had unlocked the license for it, and it would prevent Rank 10s from wearing Rank 50 gear.

I never said that there was a majority against it, was just curious if there was something I missed stating that the majority like it as you state, so I'm not really sure how that proves anything for you.

I would love to see a mix of class and level restricted armor but still have the ability to wear generic armor.

Yeah but we are not asking for SE to change the game to give us that customization, it is already here, its the close minded like yourself that is asking SE to spend their time scraping and taking a step backwards from a system that just needs to be tweaked.
