Well i'm just glad that when SE initiates player polls, people that actually enjoy the game the way it is are just a minority.... i didn't even think it was possible to like the broken Systems this game has?

And to make things clear, SE will add class specific gear but they won't change what is already in the game at the moment unless you guys didn't realize that. So while i'll be wearing my Dark Knight armor on my Lancer or wtv it is... you can still rock as many robes you want on your gladiator if that is your thing.

    Cheers....

Because people like you whined about it over and over and they caved.
Of course an healthy mix between specialized and generic gear is not a bad thing.

So by saying the game does not lack uniqueness but then again SE trying to fix that mean there is no real role in the game.
The fact that SE may be considering to cave under the whines of the mass of people that didn't even get how the system works doesn't mean that the system doesn't work.

In every game every RPG there is a type of "anti class" for Armor Allowing a mage to use Mail in the history of FF make them a PLD allowing them to tank and have some healing powers. Sure SE can come up with any new system they like but in history of all RPG and Online games , you never see a mage wearing Mail.
LOL! God forbid a developer introducing a new concept that's not part of the HISTORY of RPG!
Or better, of the absolutely artificial and innatural limitations that are part of the HISTORY of RPG.

Allowing everyone to wear everything and allowing everyone to do every JA,WS,Spell make other players who have diff class feel like there not really a class them selfs.
If you are affected by insecurities, it's not really SE's role to fix that.

I can just level up a mage class use the spell on my pugs and get the JobT that allow me to increase affinity to that class and i could heal myself just as good as a Mage without AOE cures in FFXI we never had much AOE cures so i don't see how i could not main heal? with mage affinity and put all my point to Mind.
1: even with traits you'll never be as good as an healer as a specialized healer. This not to mention the fact that if you use a trait to heal, your gimp yourself in your main role, because you use a trait slot for another role.
2: The fact that you can heal YOURSELF (using up time that you should use performing your main role) doesn't mean you can main heal. Main healing without any AOE effects is laughable and ineffective.
3: Your mana pool is extremely limited. Even just spamming CURE 2 over a short period of time will make you run out of mana extremely easily.

You may somehow manage to main heal on unchallenging mobs, but as soon as a mob with challenging damage/abilities comes up, you simply die, or make your group die.

You do know that every gear in the game does not really help you do a role as a hybrid Due to the fact that it does not work for your class? so wearing mail wont help you at all you better off just using your cloth vs mail.
I know that perfectly, and that's exactly the balancing factor. It allows people CHOICE, but they have to tradeoff benefits.

You simply don't know how the mechanics you're complaining about work. Again, you're partly justified by the fact that SE didn't yet introduce any challenging content to make you learn the hard way. Still, it's quite funny to read.

And if you read my post earlier, it could easily be fixed if you get to chose your stats for each class. Easy...as apposed to removing the whole thing which is dumb.

Personally I disliked how players handled ffxi's job system.

if you didn't /nin as a dd you failed
if you didn't sub /whm on early mage levels you failed
if you meleed as a red mage you failed

So infact ffxi was about as broken. Since most ppl didn't let other choose sub jobs they felt benifited them in how they played.

Aka cookie cutting is a broken tired system. And not something I want.

If I want to have a true red mage character, as in a magic casting fencer, I should beable to. And hope the new system they do make allows for this.

Red mage was my fav class when I first started. I was really good at this class when I meleed. I kept up needed buffs and debuffs. My skills were nearlly all capped nearly 100% of the time. Oh and red mages can ware medium metal armor. Not just cloth.

Anything but a cookie cutting system is what is needed. Not of ppl hated the cookie cutter mind set, they just went along with it just to get to cap.

Have you ever experimented the effect of that difference in stats? I and quite a few others have. The difference is not nearly big enough to make you not viable in any role.
Even if you have most of your points allocated in physical stats, you're still very viable as a caster (when you use a caster class, of course). You're not 100% min/maxed, but your viability is not at all compromised. I don't think anyone will ever even *notice* if your heals heal 10-15 HP less than the heals of someone that has specialized in magical-friendly stats, you know?

I understand wanting to be efficent, but 100% min/maxing isn't nearly necessary to be efficent.

The system as it is now, allows you to specialize on a class or a role, being 100% min/maxed on that (for instance, I'm specialized on tanking), but you're still efficent in any other role, provided that you equip the right class of course.

Cool thread you got here but you guys are in the minority.

I'm sure the developers aren't just throwing much of what the game has in the trash because of what the community demands, no they are throwing it in the trash because it's garbage and a nightmare to fix, that's if its even remotely possible

when i say garbage i mean the stuff they are thinking about removing, I'm not at all saying this game is garbage

How do you not see that this is like 2/3 of the way to making physical levels redundant? If you can allot points by class you don't NEED physical level. Furthermore, being able to allot points by type (war or magic) is still hurting the player base because it means you can't assign stats that benefit one class more than another (conjurer and thaumaturge should NOT be simply seeking the same stats).

Just accept the fact that physical levels aren't a good system, and people don't want to have to level 2 characters to be able to perform well in DoW and DoM which is the current situation. I shouldn't be punished for trying new things whilst some other guy simply gets Thaumaturge and Conjurer to 50 and outperforms me.

I'm pretty sure that the people that dislike the armory system are the minority even amongst people that stopped playing it. I'm glad that the people that dislike the armory system are the minority.

You're just highlighting another floor in the system and reason it should be scrapped here. Physical levels mean stats CAN'T be significiant, and it's yet another thing the Dev team are changing because right now they're totally meaningless, so this customisation you think comes from simply having physical levels practically doesn't exist anyway.
