Yes I know there are already many discussions on this topic GOOD well here's another one
since the "copy and Paste"aspect in Final Fantasy is destroying immersion and a sense of
adventure it should be talked to death.
Here we finally have a post by Yoshi-P stating that the Black Shroud will be redone.

Now we can stop talking about how dull and boring Gridania and Coertheas is and start talking about ways to impove this desolated land....
First the ways we can get rid of it....
>Press Delete
>Input New Area
>update servers...
OR...Burn Gridania to the ground like the Great Chicago Fire..
OR...Petrify the whole Forest and make it dark and eary....like GW
OR...we can Rape the Horses and Ride the Women till the whole dam area succumbs
to the brutality of War completely changing the landscape.
Ok some of those are severe, here are some better solutions.
Although would any of us really miss it if it was locked down for like 2 weeks while they worked on it, I think not ...hell many of us don't even go there anymore place is as barren a bald head.
He talks about fixing collision before fixing the area because there are soo many barriers there, here's an easy fix...instead of tunnels that lead up into ramps for the upper level just make hills that are traversed in any direction easy fix...
Anyways...
Positve, positve gotta think positive....negativity go away
1. Fast Travel in forms of Airship to Gridania
2. OPEN Vast area like Ul dah with no barriers but still a Forest.
3. No copy and paste areas that ALL look the same (kills immersion and the sense of adventuring) Knowing what's around every corner is BORING
4. Every Now and then Add Villages where NPC's Roam, Fishing Villages, Tribes, Commerce areas away from Gridania would be nice where we can repair items, and hell maybe even SHOP. ( Crosses Fingers for Auction House)
How kool would it be to be in The Black Shroud away from your buddies and simply walk up to a Mail Box and send them stuff from way.....wait a minute no Mail System yet right......ARRGHHHHh....oh well it's coming right.
5. USE THE TREES....Why we have no tree canopies with bridges and ways to get up there is beyond me, it's begging for some action uptop those huge trees NPC housing and Archer GUilds would be great up there.
6. Enough of the green, Gridania is too dam green, use the palette a bit better...forests aren't all green, they have a variety of colors and fauna The Black Shroud does not, except for that western area.
7. If your gonna put some streams over there why not put some Waterfalls (you call those waterfalls?) or lakes change it up, a stream every 100 Feet is Super Boring and another killer for immersion.
8. Give players a reason to visit Gridania, currently only the players that need the guilds even go overthere, that's not good.
9. Dungeons and Ruins...We need these to do some adventuring and explore...this game seems to be a bit about exploration but is there really any exploration in Gridania...NO no there is not, because we have no unique areas in Gridania, none.
10. I'm not sure if I put this one in the top 5 but I don't care I'lll put it again...
TOO MANY dam barriers. I feel like I am playing Crash Bandicoot I am waiting to push A and watch my toon do some twists.
Now here are some ways that the could get rid of those ugly tunnels and copy and paste areas in the Black Shroud....First Get rid of the stupid Map layout, it looks like a dam maze because it is a maze, that's your fault SE, if it looks like a maze...it is a maze but you guys made it so dame evident.
The Black Shroud is a perfect example of how useless the mini map really is, let us alter it by croping it back and forth to how large we want it, give us some more options.
Second....Instead of tunnels all you need are hills if you want to have higher elevations (upper levels) make the top levels and bottom levels more accessible, jump should help with that, but we don't need to be pointed in the right/wrong direction by twists and turns....it's annoying and highly repetetive.
Shouldn't forests be darker also at night because The Black Shroud is NOT and it should be......
Anyways if you guys have some suggestions as to how we can bring our citizens back to Gridania let's hear them.
