If you parse lower due to worse gear, or die more due to less HP, or are otherwise a detriment when compared with the rest of the group then you're not going to get MVP anyway.

MVP stands for Most Valuable Player - it's an award for performing exceptionally. That's it. If someone doesn't feel you performed exceptionally - then they won't vote for you and that is their prerogative or pejorative.
