I don't know if this helps you but my system made a recovery point on the 11th when it did some kind of update for 8.1 and after doing a restore it fixed my problem. Note: the recovery point didn't show up immediately, I had to click one of the options for hidden points.

I have a 3,5 years old PC (first generation i5 2,66 GHz CPU, 4 gb RAM, Radeon 5850) and a year old laptop (2nd generation i7 2 GHz CPU, 8 gb RAM, Radeon 6650M). Both are running on Windows 8.1 Pro without problems. FF XIV works as it should, without strange crashes.

When 8.1 came out I upgraded from 2 fully updated Windows 8.0 installations. Since then only been updating Windows itself.

Only issues I've had with FF XIV was back at release with truckloads of crashes to the desktop. Especially when teleporting in the game. Issue was solved by updating the Catalyst drivers to the latest beta. Since then no more crashes

Could you do me a favor?

Visit this link and download the "PCIeSpeedTest.zip" and run it on one of the two GPU cards installed. What does the former value (CPU->GPU) cap out at? <10GB ?<6GB? <3GB? <1GB? The PCIe speed really shouldn't have a noticeable impact with most games. Unless the game is heavily IO intensive but I'm having a similar issue to your "memory leak" although I have no evidence that shows any such memory leak exists. This problem is only exhibits itself with FFXIV. Hence it's specific to the game. Has nothing to do with the version of Windows you are running. If it we're a Windows issue, the problem would be far more widespread.

    Crashing after hitting "Play""

I think I might be having a similar issue. I played the game late last night and was not having an issue. I think however, my computer did several Windows 8.1 updates. Now, the game crashes as soon as I log in and press "play".

I reinstalled the client - same issue. I also cleaned my registry using a registry cleaner...no dice. What happened???

Posting the log entry in your Event Viewer related to the crash would provide more information useful to identifying cause of the crash.

Just started playing again after a 2 weeks hiatus. Now running Windows 8.1 and I am lucky to get 30 minutes of game play before the client CTDs without any error messages. Checking out event view and FF14:ARR is generating fault codes of 0xc0000005 and 0xc000001d. I have ran hours of prime95 and memtest-86 and all is stable.

I had the same error. I fixed my issue by rolling back the last five Windows 8.1 Updates. For me they updated today and yesterday and after uninstalling them my games work. Before the rollback I couldn't play any games - FF14 or steam games, etc.

Do you know the KB# of the updates by any chance? I only have issues with FF14. All other games I have work perfectly including ones that use steam.

    Similar issue with Windows 8.1

I don't have much to contribute here as a solution, but I believe I'm having a similar issue. My wife's laptop is running Windows 8.1 now and her FPS have dropped significantly. When it was just Windows 8, the game was running great.

Someone else posted something about this on the Microsoft support website:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...6-23fc00648747

With several people seemingly reporting this, it appears that something is definitely wrong with the new OS.

My hope by replying to this thread is that someone might find a solution and/or my added experience might encourage ARR support to investigate this further.

Edit: The graphics card is a GeForce GTX 770M on an ASUS G750J laptop. The game was running with 25+ fps easily before on Maximum settings. Now it gets about 7 fps.

It seems that there have not been any further posts about this concern being an ongoing issue. Because of this, we are considering it to be resolved. If this does continue to be a concern, please create another thread to further discuss resolutions or contact the Support Center at support.na.square-enix.com for assistance.
