Here I wrote about the same thing http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...eyboard-layout

Take care!
I don't know why this is such a popular suggestion, honestly. WASD IJKL works just perfectly for anyone not wanting to use the mouse. Keeps both your hands in the correct positions on the keyboard for chatting. Why anyone wants to keep moving their right hand back and forth between the arrow keys and the rest of the keyboard is beyond me.
8426 and arrows keys is better. You can move the char and camera with the right hand and use the others keys for a rapid access or just to write on chat.I don't know why this is such a popular suggestion, honestly. Also, on my Keyboard microsoft idkmodel when i hit a macro key the games become crazy for like 1 min, in example i'm running and by mistake i hit the macro the char start moving to everywhere and engaging enemies sorround me. Really sucks:/
It's so that we don't have to use the mouse at all.I don't know why this is such a popular suggestion, honestly. WASD IJKL works just perfectly for anyone not wanting to use the mouse. A player can rest their right hand over the number pad and use their right fingers to control their character movement and use their right thumb to control the camera simultaneously ... leaving their left hand and the rest of the keyboard for chatting, using hot-keys, and firing off abilities.
This pretty much says it all. FFXI (I know people hate mentioning other MMO's) was the first MMO I played where you weren't using mouse clicks to move the characters, and ever since I used that numpad layout it carried over to every game I played since. Can't image playing a game any other way. Even in Phantasy Star Universe my friends thought I was using a controllerIt's so that we don't have to use the mouse at all.

I've been waiting for this for soooooo long, I loved using just 1 hand to to move character and camera in ffxi. I even went as far as to remap the keys in windows using autohotkey in order for it to work as in ffxi, it works very well with playing, but mapping had to be suspended to use menus, then back on to use arrows as camera. If you guys want a temporary fix until the official patch look at my post here.

I made this all the way back in september of last year, I can't wait for the official patch it will make my playing experience so much better.
I would actually play with my keyboard if the camera could be mapped to the arrow keys!
As silly as it sounds, this is the primary reason I don't play.
Same for another friend of mine.
Not having completely customizable keys is bad enough, but even worse is how completely macro reliant the combat system is. No simple ctrl or alt or shift + number keys to active extra skills we bound to our extra action bars, oh no, they're preset and used only for macros! And how do we use macros? Well, first off, you go on the internet and read about how to use macros. Then, you muddle around in the macro screen trying to remember what the name of the skills are, the name of your items, the places where the items go, etc. This is also hampered by the fact there are way too many macros to memorize in your initial setup. It will take a few weeks to memorize all of them. Coupled with this, you cannot tab out of the game; you cannot import already set macros from outside of the game, etc. etc,.
The game was pretty much unplayable for me prior to the ability to bind interface screens to keys, so, I started playing afterward.
Still, it's pretty clumsy and uncomfortable to play, and I find myself fighting with the system more than I flow with it. Far more.
