I'd suggest you go out and explore the world just to get a look at itbut... mostly people just stick in ul'dah because that is where everything is at for the moment.
Uldah has the best r40 battlecraft leves and some good r30s. Limsa and Grid has good leves as well but with the current leve system it is easier to find people to have similar leves in Uldah therefore you never have to leave Uldah.
1-15 kill random stuff
15-25 Horizon Behest
25-30 Kill ants in copperbell
30-50 do the same 6-8 leves every 36 hours
44-50 kill raptors in coerthas *optional
Yeah, this is why I keep getting bored when I log back on. They need to add in camp spots in the game that are not all in ul'dahUldah has the best r40 battlecraft leves and some good r30s. You cant leave it is too dangerous. Sorry. I am lvl 50 and I still dont leave.Hey All, I was just wondering if anyone can tell me when doleave my starting area? i've only lvl'd my highest job to 22, but i remember in FFXI at least at lvl 10 i made, what seemed at the time, the long walk to the dunes, but now im just going to the next camp down the road -.-
is there any quests or incentive that require me to travel or explore?
At lower ranks I'd suggest trying out the leves at the camps in the Black Shroud and La Noscea. Sure, it's not as efficient as Horizon behest every half hour, but variety is a good thing! You can rank up quick enough at lower ranks that it isn't that big of a deal IMHO.
At the higher ranks you will be more or less stuck in Thanalan most of the time for battle leves (for the sake of efficiency), so I say enjoy your relative freedom while you can.
And of course exploring is a lot of fun. You might want to venture into Coerthas, in the Camp Glory area you should find some mobs you can kill and you can run there from the Black Shroud near Camp Emerald Moss.
basically its like FFXI in the beginning, each of the main areas cab get you to about 50. problem is, while the bastok area for example consisted of like 5 different looking zones, thanlan, while probably just as big, or bigger, does not.
People stay in ul dah now, because thats where the majority of the player base has agreeed to stay. Its not so much that leves in ul da are that much better, but if you want consistent behest groups, and to be where most people do leves, ul dah is the place where everyone else is.
Ideally, you would move around looking for best exp/monsters most suited to your playstyle, but they killed exping outside of leves/behest.
Heck, if they had higher leves/behests people would probably have went to coerthas, but alas they do not. Back before the sp change people would go all over, into deep dunegeons and far zones, chasing good exp, and trying to avoid other peoples camps, But there were more people back then, and an sp system that rewarded you more for fighting harder stuff.
actually the leves at broken water are the best leves for sp. name a leve in limsa or grid that gets that same or even close to dunes or reveries when linked and aspected. the toad one in iron lake area is decent, but not even in the same category sp wise. yes, limsa does have inferno and verdure for the r30 areas and grid has moons mistress, but most i know do dunes, reveries, wills, levin, verdure, and inferno. they do so because they are the biggest sp leves all the way to r50.basically its like FFXI in the beginning, each of the main areas cab get you to about 50. problem is, while the bastok area for example consisted of like 5 different looking zones, thanlan, while probably just as big, or bigger, does not.

Sadly SE didn't make small unique zones with a decent level of progression, expect to stay in Ul'dah/Thanalan most of the time pretty much until you are 50![]()
