Get rid of the prices in market search

Undercutting is starting to become a big problem, as if the economy isn't bad enough already.

You have people who put their *** up at the lowest price on the list and then sit there camping the wards all day undercutting anyone who puts their stuff back up at a lower price than them. They've got to have their *** sell first no matter what.

This drives prices right down. I have a policy of undercutting the undercutter, whereby anyone who undercuts me is undercut back until a point where I'm better off buying their *** and putting my price back up to a reasonable level and profiting off their crap too. But I don't have time to sit camping the wards all day to sell my *** during the ten minutes that they aren't spamming the search to under cut people.

Whoever decided showing prices in the item search was a good idea is a fool if they didn't see this coming. XI's economy works fine without this. The system should show a price history not a price list. Something needs changing.

If there will be no prices shown in the item search, then I will have to spend that much more of my own time to shop around for a best price.

What makes your time more valuable than mine?

Hey if you want to spend hours running around to save a few thousand gil that's up to you. When there's only a price history to go off nearly everyone is going to put their *** up for the normal going rate, rather than 20-50% lower than the last dude.

Sure undercutting happened in XI but nowhere near as much as in XIV. If you only buy things and never sell I can see why you'd love the current system, but eventually you're going to want to sell so that you can afford good gear (when it arrives).

Somehow I doubt people consistently get undercut 20-50% every time. I'm willing to bet it's more like 1-10%, which is normal and happens in every market, everywhere, and it's followed by a slight price increase later on to offset the undercut. There's always a general price at which items stabilize.

I think you need to elaborate on what exactly you are getting undercut on.

I think theres two situations where a player would be motivated to undercut.

Often times while adventuring many players obtain random items. They aren't necessarily seeking out these specific items; it is almost by accident that they have recieved them. Such is the nature of a drop system. Many times these items will accumulate and the adventurer will decide to sell them off. They may have many more valuable items to sell, so they lower the price to ensure their items sell quickly to make room for more. This could be a temporary occurence or it can be a reoccuring problem. In the former, because the supply isn't dramatically effected, you will not experience long term fluctuations and you may continue to sell your items at a stable price. Yet in the latter, because the item is either common or players use this item to skill up on for example, there will always be an over supply of this item. Essentially there would be no way of fixing this.

Removing price comparisons would not fix your problem. Players would quickly learn, as they did in FFXI, which items sell quickly and which do not. Prices would still plummet to the lowest level possible. In addition to not solving your problem, you also eliminate the ability for buyers to compare prices.

What the hell!? Now items shouldn't even have price tags in search to make playing the economy and ripping people off easier for you? If someone feels like camping the wards to undercut you tough. I sell all kinds of junk and it always gets sold eventually. If it doesn't, I overcharged (because there's no price history to check so I had to make a stupid guess based on the average of the top 20 currently listed items and then price my item accordingly), and that's my fault, not everyone else's for pursuing more aggressive pricing strategies.

Rigging the economy in such a way as to make it a more cumbersome and pointless waste of time as well as less transparent and informative is a great way to ruin something that is already garbage. Removing one of the few convenient parts of this garbage system is also ridiculous.

Keep prices please SE, undercutting is part of a healthy economy anyone knows this.

To the OP if you can't compete then you are obviously doing it wrong or being greedy.
