more citations please.
I remember lag, and sometimes very bad lag, when i played WOW. and FFXI. And AO. and EQ.
Many skipped, yes. That's my point.
Oh wow 5 whole years of "IT experience"....clearly there is no problem this expert has solved it.
So, I see a lot of people complaining about getting hit while outside of the red, and I just gotta say, there is something WRONG with your connection.
I know everyone complaining about it inexplicably has 5+ years in IT experience, but news flash, just because you can connect to the googles, and netflix, does not mean your internet is flawless.
There IS a delay, nobody is disputing that, but if you are out of the red when it finishes casting, you WON'T get hit. If you are, then you need to troubleshoot your connection, or get a better one.
If there are a few people who are experiencing it..then hey maybe its just them nerd raging after they go fail mode.
If there are hundreds or thousands of people who say hey..I am running out of this red circle and the shit is still hitting me...then that points to a potentially larger problem. At some point or another there is a latency issue and people are moving out of the circle on their screen..but their not according to the server. I am not going to pretend, like yourself, that because I have 5+ years experience working for an ISP that I have all the answers.
Maybe it just happens to be a problem with a specific ISP..but somehow I doubt that after all the complaints I have seen...specifically about some HM primal fights.

I don't have a citation (obviously) however http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ttling/page150 the fact that this thread is 150 pages long, just might indicate something is up. For that matter the fact that it's all but impossible to get a DF party for any dungeon without someone in the party posting a "I was out of it on my screen" type comment is another. Is it a majority of players? Probably not, or they'd be leaking subs faster than the titanic, but It's definitely a significant enough percentage to be a problem, and therefore 'large'.
You need to work on your reading comprehension skills. Me saying "I know everyone complaining about it inexplicably has 5+ years in IT experience..." is an over exaggeration pointing out how most people complaining about this claim to be experts on their networks and the problem couldn't possibly be on their end.
But nice try.

This game sync the player's position on the server side, every 0.3s, while other MMOs do that on client side, which is instantly. A simple test, try casting something while running in town & see how long it takes for the skill to get interrupted, try that again in other games. I'm playing ARR at 70ms with battleping, & it still takes ~1.20s to interrupt the skill, while in other games it cancels almost immediately even at 200-300ms...
It's bad netcode, not entirely player's connection... And those 2 things do add up
Whoah, tiger, I said THIS problem, not lag in general. I have seen lag in all the games I have played at times, but unless I was lagging in the game there were no hit detection issues. If the game was hitting 2000ms because of a bad day, then whatever. This game, however, has the hit detection issues regardless of latency (mine is usually in the 35-60ms range) and even when NOTHING ELSE is lagging in game. Casting, mob aggro, etc are all normal but the AE box still lags. THIS has never happened to me in ANY other online game, because what I saw on screen was what was happening to me at that point in time.
A gif of a character moving out of an AoE attack long before it goes off means absolutely nothing. Just eyeballing it, it appears that you were out of AoE for well over a second. You'd have dodged this particular attack every time, unless your connection is abysmal.
Even if you had posted a close call, it wouldn't necessarily disprove the dozens of gifs and videos floating around which show a very obvious delay. If the server only checks your character's position every 300 ms, and it's been 295 ms since the last check, then you only have to compensate for 5 ms of server delay. If on the other hand, there was just a check in the last 5 ms, you'll then have to compensate for 295 ms of server delay. This is on top of any delay you may have due to your connection.
You're using logic in an argument with people who think SE can do no wrong. It's very much like trying to reason with someone deeply faithful - lost cause. But do remember to zoom out as far as you can; it will solve all your lag woes.Whoah, tiger, I said THIS problem, not lag in general. Fair enough, I glanced through your post, my bad.You need to work on your reading comprehension skills. Me saying "I know everyone complaining about it inexplicably has 5+ years in IT experience..." is an over exaggeration pointing out how most people complaining about this claim to be experts on their networks and the problem couldn't possibly be on their end.

However, the rest of the post still stands and your seriously overlooking a major complaint that has been brought up by many people. Playing it off like all of these people simply have junk PC's or bad ISP's is ridiculous. I cannot even begin to tell you how many calls I went on as a tech with a major ISP cause joe blow ran a few ping tests and he thinks he pinpointed the fact that his ISP is to blame for his lag every other Tuesday night and that it could in no way be the game servers.
You sound just like one of those self-proclaimed "Engineers" that I ran into on the job and think they can diagnose intricate network problems because they learned the ins and outs of the Internet from Google.
Nice try...but I am not buying that the thousands of people bitching about the same problem all just have shit connections from their ISP, router, or their PC just sucks....If I remember correctly this is a problem the developer actually acknowledged until recently when they tried to suggest people need to just "zoom" their cameras out.

the game have lag and that cannot denide. Try to evade the circlet at 90% and see if you get hit, ofc you will get hit. And the thing ppl complain about had mention in post #95.
@OP: this thread is no need....really
