I had serious issues with the red rings not properly representing my escape from danger.

2 weeks ago.

Then I removed my router from the equation, connected my modem straight to my PC.

A world of difference. Ease of dodging is significantly, even comically easier now.

TLDR: My router was on the verge of 'dying', and causing added latency. I removed it, latency disappeared.

Check your PC.
Check your Home Network.
Check your ISP.
Check with SE.

In that order. If you choose to skip a step, nobody will take you seriously.

lol I'm not saying that FFXIV is immune to lag and that their servers can't get bogged down from time to time, but when that happens, it's effecting everyone. When people complain that getting hit while out of the red is SE's fault and it isn't happening to anyone else in the raid, the problem is on their end, not SEs.

And how is their gif more relevant? It's old, and was made by someone with connection issues. I'll be more than happy to update this with similar gifs from dungeons when the servers are back up

I'm not sure if this has already been posted, but the OP is right. There is also more to it other than internet connection. People will also experience delays with some PC setups. If your having a delay problem might want to try lowering your graphic settings. There is a lot your PC is doing when it gets the info from SE's servers about monster AI. this is where your HD/RAM/GPU come into play.

This got them into hot water back in 1.0 when loads of people had to buy top of the line PCs just to play the game from the start. I shouldn't be forced to have to buy a new PC so I can play a game without having to worry about stepping out of stuff.

Yoshi also stated he didn't want people who have lower end PCs or bad connections to not to have to worry about that while playing the game and not being an action based game. Those types of games can be frustrating to play with a terrible connection. But unlike what he said this game is highly action based and punishes you dearly if you can not over come dodging. This game has put so much emphasis on "Dodging" abilities during endgame content, its borderline crazy.

I like to think it is my old PS3's fault, because I get a lag spike everytime at the beginning of a battle. I'm a tank, so yeah, that sucks.

This is the first game in which I MUST use a software (battleping) to get over the lag/delay. I'm even in a different continent now (I live in Norway and now I'm in Brazil for more 2 months at work) and I need the software to not have any delay. In Norway I have 30MB internet and here I'm using 10MB alone, no wi-fi and no download on the side. People in my Fc from England, Netherlands and Ukraine (to mention some examples) complain about the lag/delay, people with whom I've been RAIDING for over two years since our old game, now they also have to either use the same software as me or not do content (dungeons). It's frustrating for people who are used to one shot Raid Bosses dying for aoe's.

Don't come and tell me there is no problem with the game. Specially if you live in USA, as both EU and NA servers are located in CANADA.
