I think a lot of you are right on in that if they offer more variety to get something needed (tomes) then why not? Different is good. And that way I could choose not to do them, so everyone's a winner in my eyes.

And that's likely what they will be like in the end so it could end up being good.

What would you think about them if there were gated rewards that you could get only by doing the dailies?

Yeah that's exactly why I don't like them--oftentimes, as in WoW, dailies become mandatory despite being "completely optional" because gear etc. is tied to them.
