The addition of daily quests in 2.1

How does everybody feel about this? Excited for the new patch but I loathe dailes.

It's lazy content design. Other content such as dungeons, crafting, or housing do a better job of making things feel less like filler, whereas I can't do a single daily in a game without being painfully cognizant that all I'm doing is wasting time.

Even WoW, a game that relied on them so heavily, has finally gotten rid of them. They decided that it was a bad design mechanic. Few enjoy doing the same menial tasks over and over daily, and fewer like to feel forced to. (Spamming dungeons for tomes can feel similar but having a week to reach the cap allows you at least some flexibility and dungeons are inherently better than 5 or 6 "kill x number of y" quests.)

Hopefully dailies won't be necessary. But so many promise "optional" dailies then tie gear and other important benefits to them making them de facto-mandatory, so I have some apprehensions.

    Is anybody happy about it?

I'm happy as it will give me more options for getting Tomes each day.

Seeing as it's not released yet you're pretty much crystal balling doom based on your experience in other games.

The dailies/weeklies w/e are intended to bring people back into lower level dungeons to increase the amount of population doing them. They're also intended to provide us with a better variety of ways to acquire tomes.

Both of these sound like excellent ideas, and I'm not willing to make early judgement on content that hasn't been released yet.

We also plan to update the Duty Finder. As there are a significant number of updates planned, we're considering focusing on this during the next Letter from the Producer LIVE. One particular addition I'd like to briefly mention is random matching. This is a matching feature that will let you join instances at random after choosing one of several categories such as "leveling dungeons," "high-level dungeons," "main scenario primal battles," etc. By using random matching, you'll be able to obtain Allagan tomestones once a day for each category. After selecting a category for random matching, you will join whichever instance has the fastest matching speed. This feature will also make it easier for new players who are progressing through low level dungeons and story primal battles to be matched up.
When it comes to acquiring Allagan tomestones, we realize there are only a handful of options for obtaining them at the moment, but in patch 2.1 we'll be adding three new dungeons, extreme mode primal battles, Crystal Tower, beastmen daily quests, and treasure hunts, all of which will allow players to obtain Allagan tomestones. Although there are currently a mix of players who want to run through content efficiently to obtain tomestones and those who want to progress at their own pace which causes tension in Duty Finder parties, we feel this problem will be resolved when we add more methods to tomestones.
I see no mention of anything being compulsory, I assume there might be gear from stuff like Beastmen dailies and treasure hunts, but it seems purely optional. More news will be coming in the Live letter coming up later this month.

Thanks for the responses. But first, let's not jump to conclusions--I never crystal balled any doom. I only said I dislike the concept of dailies. This was not a "sky is falling" post.

The posts you referenced do sound pretty cool and I agree if the dailies are of a different variety found in other games it could be cool. Like if they consisted of running random lower-level dungeons for tomes once a day, for example. I don't see "beastmen dailies" (solely based on the title, of course, I could be proven wrong) being much different from the variety currently found in other MMOs.

As I said I'm looking forward to the patch just dislike dailies and wanted to see what others thought of them.

I'll take any new way of obtaining tomestones, ESPECIALLY ones where I don't have to rely on other people so heavily, therefore, daily quests sound like a nice new addition.

hrm...the idea of dailies doesn't bother me too much. I actually thought they were being implemented as a way to earn gil.
I was super excited about treasure hunting, but a bit bummed to see that the rewards for those seem to be just more tomes. Ah well, I'll wait n' see what they're all about.

It's probably a valid concern, I found dailies/weeklies pretty tedious in SWTOR. We already have that sort of grind with tomes though, and SE typically do pretty well in terms of content variety, so I'm looking forward to it.

It seems redundant on top of leves. I know noone uses leves for anything but gathering and crafting, but the easy solution would just be to separate exp/daily leve tally from gathering/crafting level tally.

In this way, it also enables people who don't get on every day to still aquire as much as someone who does.

I don't mind daily quests if there's just a few of them. The problem WoW had was that everything in Mists of Pandaria was tied to dailies; gear, reputation, mounts, etc. With the addition of removing of the daily quest limit, it felt like you had to do all of them if you wanted to be competitive, which easily amounted to around 50 or so. If you had any alts then this number multiplied.

Battleleves get their XP boosted with 2.1, along with Dungeon XP.

And that's likely what they will be like in the end so it could end up being good.

What would you think about them if there were gated rewards that you could get only by doing the dailies?
hmmm... Well, at the moment we've got the Weeklies (Myth Cap + Coil)... That's the only current way to get iL90 gear...

IMO, as long as the Grind isn't too bad (ie: doesn't actually require doing 7 specific quests on 7 different days of the week, resetting each week) it should be fine... I think...
