A large part of that nostalgia towards older games is the fact that they were new. There was a sense of wonder and excitement because of that newness. To put it quite crudely, the cherry is popped on that now, it's not coming back (unless you're actually new). That sense of wonder and excitement has been replaced with 8 years of pretty much grinding the same thing over and over.

The world is different and we are different. There's no putting the genie back in the bottle.
