For those experincing frequent Windows "This program has stopped working"

I was battling many force close and "This Program Has Stopped Wrking" messages after the last big update. I had changed video card drivers and in-game settings and tried everything i could think of. As a last ditch effort, I disabled my CPU Overclock (seen in my sig below) and just let the chip do its thing at stock.

Since then, no crashes at all. No crowded fate crashes, no town crashes nothing, no hard freezes, no nothing.

I do not experience these issues with other programs on my system when it is overclocked (auto-adjusted with the MB, i don't touch anything else, sits at 4.2, not a crazy OC for an i5-3570k.)

So, if you haven't tried it, give it a shot and report back. Perhaps if we can identify that the game doesn't like overclocked CPUs, it may help the devs with a cause of the issue

I don't think anyone has claimed to overclock their system. I think stopping that would be the first thing most people would try after changing drivers.

Sometimes they don't know if they are overclocked though. Most common with Video Cards (sometimes the "Extreme" editions and such need a slight "underclock" after they've been hammered a while), but sometimes things like memory get binned at higher speeds, but no longer hold up after they've been abused for a while. Components degrade over time.

It's often an easy thing to test on a built system--pre-built boxes from Dell and such, may not be an option. But it is worth looking into down-clocking things if it is an option.

I experience this issue regularly and my CPU is running at stock speed.

Thanks for the idea, but I don't think this is solvable anywhere else but on SE's end.

I had a friend help me order parts and build my system about 2 months ago, but we just left everything running as is. I don't know enough to try and overclock, or "underclock" my system without risking damaging it. So I'm getting this problem with everything running at factory defaults.
