Tried the registry edit btw, no dice. Is there a way to disable the TDR entirely?

No, you can't disable TDR.. It's somewhat fundamental to the changes MS made to the graphics system starting with Vista. Though there may be something to Method 3 as posted by Raist. I've noticed some errors with the Desktop Window Manager occurring in time with game crashes in the event viewer. I'm going to try setting the visual effects to best performance before starting the game tonight.
Tried this and will see what happens tonight. From what I can tell, the regedit fix simply changes the 2 second timeout to 8 seconds. Hypothetically, you might be able to set it to 60 in which windows would wait a full minute before starting the reset. No, you can't disable TDR..
