In my personal opinion SE lack of a wide 360° scan on MMO world, if you check JP-Button site update history archive of FFXI they are doing the same things as 9 years ago. If you want to be competitive you have to look around and put away your conservative point of view on how to develop a MMO. Anyway I'm glad of all this updates and I think that If the game was released as the state that is now things would be gone differently.

Actually the problem is the opposite. They have been too original and thrown any kind of conservativism to the bushes. Most of the complaints about FFXIV features are from players that would want a less original/more conservative approach.

Best is a relative term that is different from person to person. Though saying it will take down wow, all the making of the realm videos... they had big hopes. Then again so did all the players on day 1.
    I already defined it "quality-wise".

Quality and popularity almost never end up being the same thing.

If i remember right they start working on FFXIV when COP was done for FFXI, but took them a long time to come up with the crystal tools then they start working on FFXIV 1-2 before they said it on E3 but all the work and gameplay was done around that year so this game should have came out at least nov.?.2011 for sure. I feel that this game could give us something others game do.

The others talking about how rift kick out it's release good and most of the issue was fix and the game came out great. Well it's pretty easy to take out a game when 60% of the work was done it's just a wow clone in every way. All they had to do is make there own storyline, areas, look but the tree the class are a mix of WOW and FFXI the tree system seem a lot like wow mix with FFXIV hybrid system. I really don't like rift myself and not saying it's not a bad game but it's a wow clone in many ways.

I expect that, like FFXI, a year after launch we'll have a totally different and much more enjoyable game. And then we'll all kick back and be like "hey, you remember that time when there were no sidequests?" and the newbies will be like WHAT YOU SAY?! And then we'll all sing Kum-ba-ya right before riding off to an epic dungeon crawl on our chocobos.

I'm trying to keep a positive outlook for XIV, but I have to be completely honest with myself when I objectively compare this game and it's features not only to games released recently, but with games that have been out for quite some time.

One of the things I dislike about XIV has to do with zone specific mobs. For example, in XI when I leave San d'Oria, I have rabbits to fight, and some orcs. When I leave Bastok I have worms and some Quadav.. I forget what there is around Windurst.. some small animals and Yagudo.

When I leave any city in XIV, I have marmots and no beastmen.

As small and petty as it may sound, that right there just ripped the immersion away for me. There is no logical connection between the geography of a zone and the mobs found in it.

I can go on and on about other things, but when something as simple as having mobs in a zone that make sense gets overlooked, there really isn't a need to.

In it's current state, the game is not worth my money, if they didn't drop the subscription fee, I would have cancelled after my free month. I honestly don't see the game being worth a monthly fee until they have the first expansion finished and released. That of course assumes that all outstanding gameplay issues are resolved and the game "feels" like it is on par with some of the other games released around the same time.

I have alot of faith in SE, but they ARE under a time crunch now. With Rift enjoying a succesful launch and TOR/GW2 on the horizon, SE really needs to take a serious look at other games and find out how to incorporate what they see into XIV.

This was one of the things in particular that caused me disappointment. If you take down more than half of a map, it still has the exact same value. I feel no connection to the world whatsoever; it simply feels uninspired.

I just wrote a good page worth of my thoughts on the game's current state and what I feel it's lacking... But as I clicked post, it redirected me to another page saying I'm not logged in (which I was) and cleared my whole post.

I can't say I'm horribly surprised. I'll leave it to you guys, get the message out

Hardly. It amazes me how inefficiently the game engine runs, if anything that's why these better ideas couldn't be implemented (or SE reasoned away their implementation) because the engine was already taxed so heavily despite having fairly mediocre graphics.

Yeah, the character models are pretty. Everything else is extremely bland.

Like when you got SP (sometimes) for every hit on the enemy? when you had to have Gaurd up to get shield SP?

You know - BACK IN THE DAY.
