Hardly. It amazes me how inefficiently the game engine runs, if anything that's why these better ideas couldn't be implemented (or SE reasoned away their implementation) because the engine was already taxed so heavily despite having fairly mediocre graphics.

Yeah, the character models are pretty. Everything else is extremely bland.

The character models are pretty because they include normal mapping, high resolution textures and an extremely high number of polygons for MMORPG standards (the highest in the market). That's the whole reason of the inefficency of the engine, that is actually helped by the static effects.

Hi, prestige. I read a thread you wrote in Japanese community.
I'm japanese player (precisely, I was a FFXIV player but I stopped playing it last december)
I played most of pieces of final fantasy including FFXI and I was really expected FFXIV.

I think most Japanese players as well as I feel very same, extremely disappointed at the game even 5 month after its launch.
Currently, the most active thread in japanese community is about a issue of "copy and paste map".
A large numberof people feel it unacceptable and want drastic reconstruction.
The third most active thread is "We would like to ask developer why SE launched this?".
Most people there want to know what happened in SE.

Obiously, japanese people are wonderling why FFXIV become so terrible.
Some people say it is due to low-cost policy of executive Mr. Wada,
others say SE has longer has talented creater who can make final fantasy people want to have.
Some people think it is because FFXIV was outsourced to China.
(I don't know its true or not, but actually, there were many verbal mistakes Japanese writer never take)

In my opinion, current FFXIV is the worst final fantasy ever and it is very difficult to recover.
I hope SE develop a new finalfantasy online rather than spending time and money to this horrible game.
I highly expected FFXIV, but it' a real disappointment.

I'm glad to see that both JP and NA are on the same page with this. As I said, sometimes I feel that the JP get preferential treatment when it comes to opinions, and we are just here for extra sub numbers. I do really like the fact that Yoshi P takes the time to have complete messages for us that aren't poorly translated bulletin points.

To add my little question to SE.....

SE what happend with the graphics engine? Polishing?? Optimization?? Dont get me wrong, the game looks awesome in standard resolution but with the hardware we have these days, running this game with maxed out settings should not be some godly task. Let me take for example a game like Crysis (an old game that really tells what is a good gaming PC in 2010 standards) it can be run on max settings with no hickups, but this game.... OMG try to put some nice 8XAA with good highest textures and it will lag your life out of you. Myself have a hexacore (upgraded on january from a quad) with 2 AMD 5850 on CF. My life best friend went the Intel way and hes having a hell of a system with a 980x with GTX580 SLI and still cant max the game. Everything other game maxes up and no hickups. According to the benchmark, it seemed to favor AMD hardware but I'm now highly doubting it.

Thats is my feeling for this night.

SE I still hope XIV will pull through with the help of Yoshi-P and the Dev team. I would like to know however Did nobody on the old team even play the game? How could they sit at the round table so to speak and say "Yes lets release this game now." A hiccup is one thing but this thing is a nuclear disaster to be released seriously...Reading interviews this game sounded like the perfect MMO for me and luckily it was a final fantasy game. Then I enter the game, do some leves(still excited), and then I look around like ooooook....Whats next? On the humor side of things i gotta admit I never played a game like this before lmao so i guess you was right.
Yoshi-P I believe in you like many others please don't let us down.

Stuntmanmike, I know what you are saying. I thought FFXIV was going to be the last game I had to buy until FFXI-3. This is not the case. I already bought a new game 2-weeks after FFXIV came out.
