I've rescued Milfilna and gang from Castrum Centri and we are on our way out of the area. Wiggs has sacrificed himself to protect us. Urianger, Papalymo, and I fight against a couple of Imperial soldiers with a Magitek Vanguard H-1.

The Magitek Vanguard is invulnerable to both physical and magical attack.

I waited for the timer to run down in order to fail the fight.

Iirc, in this instance you need to destroy the generators do drop the vanguards shield. They're located behind walls/buildings and guarded by an Imperial soldier.
