RPGs weren't really that big at the time in America, so I would assume that showing actual gameplay might have turned some people away.

Probably the same thing they were thinking for the Halo Wars TV commercials, hahaha.

I don't find that commercial intriguing at all, actually. Personally, I hate when videogame commercials neglect to show any gameplay. I feel like they're hiding it from me; like it must suck too much to make people wanna play.

Ironically, most game commercials had very little to do with the game and more of a satire. Especially in the 90s with extremely cheesy animated commercials merely staring the game's mascot or whatever to try to entrap the younger audiences.

Even now they generally show a cutscene or two and very little gameplay. So it's not like it's new or anything, if anything it's pretty common since it's what generally interests people.

Halo Wars was actually pretty good. I bought it because I liked the demo. I've never bought any of the FPS Halo games, however, hehe

FFXIII tricked me like that, it showed all the best parts with that trailer with Leona Lewis singing in the background.... which left the game void of anything surprising... Cant believe they put all HQ cut scenes in that trailer...

It's not a bad RTS game. What's funny is the opposite is also said -- it shows all gameplay then people say the story or music/cutscene/etc sucks probably lol.
