for everyone complaining about too many aetherytes and you enjoy the mindless task of runnining/chocoboing everywhere.. the simple solution is to not use teleport. don't try and say the game needs less of something because you are set in your old ways and have fond memories of running everywhere and artificially padding your gameplay with monotonous tasks.

Does fate xping, crafting, grinding for tomes, etc count as monotonous tasks?

The whole point of a MMORPG is to be part of a huge world and become a life form within that world. How is the current world large? You can get anywhere at the click of a button.
Travel time is what makes a world feel large it adds to the experience. Just like scenery and weather it adds to the feel of the game. Travel is not exactly the mindless task you imply it is. Knowing how to get somewhere is part of world knowledge or at least being able to use a map. Teleporting everywhere removes the need of knowing where things are.
I think part of the problem with MMO's these days is many people like the idea of playing an MMO but don't have the patience required to actually play one. Everybody wants everything NOW or sooner.
