A couple of weeks ago, I read a post wondering how Samurai would function in ARR. A cool idea, or what I think is a cool idea, came to me last night. I'm assuming SAM as a job, so this is more of the class leading up to SAM and some ideas for SAM exclusive abilities.
I'll start with the layout. None of the WS will have set combos such as Impulse Drive > Disembowel > Chaos Thrust. Instead, you can start a combo with any WS, you then receive a buff along the lines of "Combo Multiplier (CM)" that will make your next WS function as if being combo'd. Eventually, you will get a second stack of this buff leading to a third link in your combos. The damage of your next WS would increase with each stack of the buff and would dissipate after three WS.
So lets say at 15 you get CM rank 1 and the buff will increase the potency of your next WS by 30ish. Then at level 30, you get the second buff that will add another 30ish potency. Samurai can then receive an ability that will give them the lvl 2 buff for 10 seconds effectively giving them a 3rd rank combo for the next 3 WS as one of their 5 job skills.
Then you have the weaponskills themselves. You'll have your basic, lowest TP cost WS at level 1 and then progress from there. These are numbers off the top of my head, so just a rough idea.
-True Slash that is 50 TP with 150 potency.
-WS that will apply a slashing debuff for 70 TP and 120 potency.
-Slow debuff WS 60 TP 140 potency
-Haste buff WS (Similar to Heavy Thrust but for skill speed) 70 TP 120 potency.
-WS that applies a dot if used with CM rank 2.
-Strongest WS (From Samurai) with an added bonus if you combo it with the CM rank 2 that will do 300 potency.
There will, of course, be more weaponskills to go along with this, but it will suffice to illustrate my idea I hope. So it wouldn't particularly matter which order you use WS in terms of combos, but you will need to find out the best rotation to keep your haste buff up and slashing debuff on.
