PC locks up on switch to full screen...

Rather than long winded explanation, I'll go with point form to make it easier to follow through:
    • Game runs in windowed mode at preset resolutions, no issues
    • PC locks up within seconds of switching to full screen
    • The lockup is in the form of vertical monochromatic stripes, the color is usually but not always blue
    • PC locks up as above with borderless windowed
    • PC locks up as above with windowed when manually streched to fill screen (happens once it reaches a certain % of screen space)
    • This issue is unique to FFXIV, all other games run flawlessly
    • Both official release and beta drivers tried
    • Complete driver wipe, including use of 3rd party driver cleaner
    • Memory test produced no errors
    • 3DMark11 ran right through without errors

    System:
    ASUS R9 280X DC 2 V2
    Intel Core i5 2500K
    G.Skill F3-12800CL8-4GBXM (x2 in slots #2 and #4)
    ASRock Z68 Extreme 4

    [EDIT]
    • Desktop/Fullscreen Resolution: 2560x1600
    • Rebooting PC and restarting the game will cause PC to lockup even if set to windowed mode, unless the ffxiv.cfg file is edited and everytying under <Display Settings> is removed to reset graphics to default.
    • Tested with both "Maximum" and "High (Desktop)" settings

    [EDIT]
    Present solution requiring more testing:
    • Reset graphics by editing FFXIV.cfg file as above
    • Launch game, and in the title screen menu, set to full screen and resolution to 2560x1600
    • Set graphics to "Standard (Desktop)"
    • Log into character so you're in the game
    • Manually increase settings to "High" or "Strong" or whatever is desired (This will change the preset to "Custom") applying and saving after each change (not sure if the last part was necessary, but it's what I did)

Ran around a bit for about 5 min with no crashes. Will try again in the morning to see if the solution holds, or if the same crash presents itself. Either way, PITA.
