    [dev1008] Character jump

    - please dont add a jumping unless there is a need for it.

-if jump does get added, dont add a button for it.

*either make it so you must hit the menu and select the action. ex like selecting synthesize. same with climb. (select the action, cut scene of action, complete)

    * or make it so it auto-jumps as you are running off the ledge.

    I want--Zelda/Monster Hunter style roll & ledge jump/leap.

Jumping in most MMOs are stupid. They serve no purpose other than you can bounce up and down and cross 5ft gaps. 100% erroneous and not worth the gamebreaking/rebalancing/immersionexploding consequences.

I would not mind seeing Zelda-style dungeons with controlled jumps and I certainly wouldn't mind having zelda/MH rolling for combat... so long as the battles make good use of it.

If they implement line-missile/cone monster abilities, rolling would allow you to quickly dodge. However a problem arises with the input lag.

Love the idea of jumping command, However think it should be strictly bound to passive mode, can have a button to activate or even a emote execution like /Jump but will only activate when squared to an obvious small cliff. or a climb to vault a small or half wall type position. Example may be the small juts of earth that you can see sticking up on the way to say Skull Valley NW of LL. or even a 1 way jump from the large cliff where the crabs are located in the southern portion to Skull Valley. But should be activated by manual menu navigation (Like Synthesis, Aethlyte crystals etc.) or also a quick macro on a keyboard that would allow a player to be in position hit say B on the keyboard n activate the jump animation.
Development point of view that may cause adversity to this idea is it's ability to be abused as a kiting option versus monster or notorious monsters.

but DO NOT MAKE IT A WoW Jumping System... please. If you do this, don't add it at all. *Look i can jump~ I can Jump~ I CAAAANN JUMP~* don't want to see lalafell springing around town. Sorry guys.

As always, I supposed Zelda/Monster Hunter/ Final Fantasy IV-XIII (excluding XI and XII) auto jumping and climbing actions.

No controllable jump in any past FF's. (Excluding the walk into jumps of X-2 and XIII). Enough said.. No jump.

I agree! It's the same with mounts. They're just so useless.. we can walk for a reason.. right?

btw making a 'jump' feature would be so much easier than making a situational jump. Unless you want a really badly done + copy and pasted jump cycle for every ledge you come across then sure

It would feel a bit more immersive as well.

Imagine right now you simply walk off ledges and sink.

Now imagine that your character simply hops off the ledge. Or over a gap. Or falls a little and lands at the bottom of the larger edges.

Really makes you "feel" the landscape, doesn't it?

I've already actively participated in more than one of the epic 'Jump' threads on these forums. So I will simply say that I am in favor of a free-form space-bar style jump. Only limitation I would think about would be a sort of stamina meter to keep people from repeatedly jumping out of boredom. Otherwise, let people jump at will.
