Grand Companies - QUESTIONS for Yoshida-san, Community Reps

Hi All,

For the sake of making it easier for our Community Reps to gather questions we may have about the Grand Companies, I wanted to try and consolidate the various questions in multiple threads that people have about the Grand Companies into 1 Questions Thread.

("The Grand Companies Are Coming" thread seemed OK, until it expanded into a (fun) nationalistic / server-thumping thread, where questions are now buried somewhere in the 20+ pages within.)

I'll be updating this Original Post with questions people may have about the Grand Companies in the hopes we might get some answers.

I hope we can get clarification from Yoshida-san and the Community Reps (or at least on 1.18 Launch Day) about:

• Can other players who are NOT part of the same Grand Company as you, help you out on your Missions?
  
  This is important because if your friends / LS mates join different Grand Companies and we *can't* help each other out since we're in different Companies, that would be bad and a very important thing to know ahead of time, before joining. (I would hope that we can help each other out, regardless of Company allegiance.)

• Will the Rewards for each Grand Company or the General Focus be made clear before joining?
  
  In other words, if, say the Twin Adders Grand Company has a rare Conjurer Weapon as one of its higher rewards, or the Maelstrom has a super rare Marauder Helm or Gladiator Shield, it would be good to know ahead of time, instead of joining and not knowing the rewards until later.
  
  Or if the rare rewards (Relic Weapons? ) aren't ready, at least make it clear to the Player what the General Focus of that Grand Company is (e.g., "The Maelstrom highly regards users of the Axe and workers of Metal" etc.), so we don't join and spend our time clearing Missions and gaining ranks, only to find out 2 months later that, "Oops! The Archer Relic Weapon is only available with the Flames Grand Company."

The companies say it does not matter which city you originally started in, but will having linkshell members all signed to the same company make a difference. & WILL you be able to change companies if you dont like the missions?

Ventus asks a similar question:

Are we stuck with the grand company once we choose one?

I've been wondering, once we make our initial decision for choosing a grand company do we then have no option to change?

Ultimately, I think it would make sense that we *could* help out your friends / LS mates in different Company Missions, and that we should know the general Rewards (focus) of each Company before committing 100%. Because if we can't help others out in other Companies and are stuck with one, I think Ul'dah's Grand Company may be the easiest / safest to join for most people.

are you still looking into making it into what we thought it would be before?

is company something that you see being played 3years into the game or is it going to be a gas then pass content?

Of course, I'd be glad if they were. Is it better to remain quiet and just wait and see? Maybe.

I think like you, I'm super excited about the Grand Companies (I left that comment in the main thread Company thread ), but at the same time, there are some worries (as seen by a few similar questions) about potential restrictions / limitations.

I'm not expecting (but would be pleasantly surprised) if on Day 1 of 1.18, we see a full list of the Rewards for each Grand Company.

I would expect the bigger rewards to not be ready yet (until Jobs / Classes are fully revamped (after 1.20). It makes sense (after all if they're going to make a Relic-type weapon to earn (or some nice JSE Armor), they should probably have the Stats / Armory System / Classes done first).

So that being said, that's why one of my questions was only to make sure we'd clearly know where a specific Class / Job's rewards may reside in.
