As I was going through a recent hot topic over the Market Wards, during a reply I came up with an idea to rework the Wards into something better and more organized. It has aspects of both the "Bazaar"istic Market Wards styling, and an AH style (by organization).
Redesigning the Market Wards Area
Now in order for this idea to work the Market Wards "zone" needs to be re-designed into a much larger room. This will reduce the amount of lag that people will receive when in the Market Wards due to the amount of people we hope to see returning to the game. Instead of a long, somewhat dreary looking hallway, it could be a large, bustling room filled with NPCs and players alike to give it more life and make it feel more like a Bazaar. SE could then name it into something like the Market Plaza instead. Or something of the like.
"Stands" or "Shops"
The current problem I have with the Market Wards is that whenever I'm looking for a piece of armor, I end up going into a completely different ward/row to find an item that doesn't belong in that ward/row. Not overly annoying, but it makes the Market Wards over-all seem unorganized and flawed.
The idea I propose is that SE put the current "Wards" into that now larger room and changing them into "Stands" or "Shops" of sorts. At each stand is an NPC for each different row (Battlecraft Ward, Tailor's Ward, etc, etc.). You go up to the shop NPC of the, say, Battlecraft Stand, and from there you can search for all of the current Battlecraft style weapons, each under their own category at the stand. Prices could be viewed as they are now, and then you can directly purchase them from that NPC's Stand. This would help with organization of the Market Wards.
Abolishment of Player Retainers
Instead of having multiple retainers of our own, I would like to introduce the idea that once you enter the large room, there is a counter off to the side where there is an NPC where you can put your items up for sale. It would a global retainer. You put up your items at this NPC, and then this NPC's Role is to organize and send items that adventurers have given them over to the respective shops/stands. This reduces the need to go to multiple different stands in order to place different types of items up for sale. This NPC, of course, will require a minimal tax for their efforts (a much needed gil-sink). All items sold would go straight to your delivery box (Hoping there will be a delivery system by this point). If there isn't a delivery system by this point, then you could pick up your gil at the Retainer NPC.
Character Safe (For Storage)
Also, I'm sure there is the worry of "Character Inventory". To this I propose that in this same area, through this NPC, you are allowed your own personal "Safe" with a given amount of slots to fill with your goodies.
Large Delivery Boxes
The issue of losing your retainers brings up the issue of taking out all of your items from your retainer and then transferring them to the Retainer NPC. Instead of having to take out each item, hopefully SE could implement a working Delivery Box system that would send you everything that was in your retainers at the time. While you still need to put your items back to the Retainer NPC, It would be nice to go along with a new style of Market Wards
Constructive Feedback is Appreciated
Here is what the Market "Plaza" blue-print would be expected to look like:
