About Chocobo's

Unfortunately I don't see a search function that would let me search for information.

First, how costly is it to level up our chocobo, secondly is it even worth it? Third can it really tank or is one spec more oped then another?

It is not costly to raise a chocoob, merely time-consuming. They cannot benefit from quests, FATEs, or dungeons, so they can just do old-fashioned grinding. As for whether it's worth it, currently most do not believe so. However, it may be useful in future content, so if you have the time to do so, why not?

Tank one is garbage. DPS is "ok", and healer one is absolutely amazing for non healer jobs (though it's probably better for them than the others, too).

I believe there's a mix/match setup that trumps all 3 if you're willing to stance dance, but you miss out on the special barding at rank 10. If you have to pick one tree, I'd say just go healer.

That bird can be a great help in fighting, I'm currently lv 50, so I don't need exp - so I don't worry how much exp my chocobo takes from me.
It will take time to make a strong healer/warrior/etc chocobo - but it will be a great helping hand in fates, too bad we can not take them to dungeon

Chocobos don't take any exp from you, regardless of level. They get their own exp separately.

Edit: I was wrong. It apparently takes 25% exp.

About the tank chocobo, it has the capability of tanking alright but the AI is awful and won't spam the enmity-building move like it should. The AI is set to be "improved" for the tank stance in 2.1, but we don't know what that entails.

I have my chocobo leveled in a bit of all 3 paths, and keep him in Free stance. The passive bonuses (+HP, +Attack, etc) all apply no matter what stance you are in so I think it is better to do that, unless you do intend to have him only heal since the healer stance only benefits from HP and maybe Crit from the other trees.

Chocobos don't take any exp from you, regardless of level. They get their own exp separately.

Kill a mob solo, then kill one with chocobo out. It takes a percentage of your exp for itself so it can level up.
