Can I prevent the opening movie from starting?

When the game starts and goes to the splash screen (showing: 'start', 'opening movie', 'configuration', 'exit'), and I remain inactive for a while, the opening movie automatically starts.

Unfortunately my PC (Windows 8 Pro N) does not have the codec to play that movie. If the game attempts to start the movie, it gets stuck in a black screen with a white, spinning wheel in the lower right corner. When this happens I have to press Alt+F4 to close the game altogether. It is currently impossible to get that codec for Windows 8 Pro N (I cursed Microsoft when I found out about that), so there's no way for me to fix this problem.

Instead, I would like a way to prevent the opening movie from showing completely.
If anyone knows of a way, I would be very grateful.

Not in my knowledge, I want to stop it as well, I tried everything but nothing seems to work.

In the file FFXIV.cfg there's the following line:
    Code:
    CutsceneMovieCaption	4294967295
I'm assuming these are bitflags for showing cutscenes or not (32 of them by the looks of it, though that number may simply be due to the size of a regular integer) because the binary number is 11111111111111111111111111111111.
I could try playing around with that.

Has anyone tried that? If so, does it do what I thought it would?

    So I tried
    Code:
    CutsceneMovieCaption	0
turning all bit flags off, and the game still attempts to show the movie, locking the game in a black screen.

    Any suggestions?

It's physically impossible to get that codec? Even via a third party codec suite (such as k-lite?)

I find it amazing that in this day and age such a problem can exist.

I agree. I tried K-Lite after a friend suggested it, but to no avail.
Microsoft is just being ridiculous for not providing it to Europe.

Have you tried using a stern voice and a squirt bottle every time the scene starts? Sometimes all you need is a little punishment to get the results you're after.

If that doesn't work, just zoom your camera out more.

Thanks ZohnoReecho. I tried these before, but they are not for the Pro version of Windows 8 N. It gives me the error: "The update is not applicable to your computer."
