    Number of password resets ridiculous

I've had to reset my password like 7 times in the last week. Due to a number of factors my ADSL router has had to resync to the exchange, and every time it does so I get a login error and I am forced to change my password.

To top it off, when you go to login and get the error, it pops up a window with a URL that doesn't direct you to anything meaningful.

To add further insult to injury, when I do go to the password reset page, I see a statement about if I'd bought a SE security token, then I wouldn't need to be doing this.

At this stage, it feels like SE's security measures are overboard to the extreme in order to annoy players enough into stumping up cash for an SE security token thing.

Back to the base issue though, I mean, come on. People need to restart their ADSL router for a variety of reasons, but the public-side source IP address will almost always be on the same network as before. Does the password reset detection mechanism really need to be so heavy-handed as to force a password reset EVERY time?

Seems SE doesnt understand what a dynamic IP address is. Lots of other games use this to prevent hackers from accessing an account. But IP's have a location that can be figured out. Most games will allow any IP's to access your account as long as it is local to the users last login or IP used to create the account. Doing this will block anyone trying to log into an Americans account from China, and that makes sense. It doesn't make sense however to block access to an Ohio IP when the users last login or account creation IP is also from Ohio.

SE does understand what a dynamic IP means. The problem is, that some ISPs have multiple IP range groups and they dynamically assign it to their users. My ISP for example, has like 7 different IP ranges. This affects not only FFXIV (until I started using the token), but other games that use a similar system, one example being GW2.

The paranoia is justified. The did shut that system off after release, only to be met with a wave of hacked accounts because people are that stupid with their account information. From their perspective it's better to see people complain about having to reset a password than having to perform the tedious (for both SE and the player) procedure of confirming who the legitimate account owner is.

Since they now have a security token app for all major mobile OSes, I don't see what the problem is. It's not like you are forced to buy a physical one, and if you bought the CE, you already have one anyway.
