Rant alert - Connection to server

Ok first off - I love FF14, I have had pretty much weeks of uninterrupted play after the initial glitches.
However over the last 5 days it has basically become unplayable. I can't stay connected to the server for more than a few minutes. All game progress for me has ground to a halt. I can't do dungeons, can't follow the story, and am therefore resorting to crafting to try to fill my time - which clearly isn't what I want to be doing.
My internet connection is excellent, my partner sits in the same room and plays without interruption.
Please, if anyone has any ideas (can I just say I'm a 50+ non-techie person so in English please! ) that I could try to fix this issue, I would be eternally grateful.

It seems that there have not been any further posts about this concern being an ongoing issue. Because of this, we are considering it to be resolved.
