you new to this endgame thing? :3 people have been expecting apps for endgame raiding guilds for the longest time, if your dead weight in a raid group your actively screwing over every one else, its just a way to judge that your not 100% derp

Your missing something. Yet It is just a game for many people if you casual or just play for your own enjoyment you do not need to worry about them., but most of those recruitment guilds are setting up for the long haul. Those are people who are just setting up there guilds so it last for years and to reduce the drama. It may seem stupid to a lot people. But a lot those people have been running guilds for many years on many other mmos also. Something you will notice down the road many of the FC's will slowly disappear. Yet a lot those sign up guilds will have a lot people still in them even if there are playing other games. They will still be playing this game. Most of the applications stuff is a product from all the Free to play mmos. It is a reason a lot them have the sign up.

if you don't want to fill out an application, just join one of the FCs that don't recruit like that.
I used to be quite wary of applications too, until I actually went and 'bit the bullet' in SW:TOR.
    the result is astonishing:
I've been in this (the TOR) guild for almost 2 years now, made lots of friends - even met a couple of them in person even though we're on a US server and I'm from Europe. I love these people.
why they/we have an application process? so we know people fit in with us. we care exactly .zero. how good you are. we'll help you get better and if you never do that's also ok! we expect that you are dedicated to the guild and that your goals are the same as ours. our app helps us to 'filter out' the elitist douchebags and still make sure people don't join us just because they saw our tag in a random warzone...

it's one of the reasons I haven't joined a FC in this game yet. I'm not sure if I want a 'casual' FC, an 'endgame' FC, or an FC that is like my SWTOR guild :P

I think it depends on the FC. Sure, some have massive requirements, but it's not like they're forcing you to join them XD Some FCs also have the simplest application form and the form of interview is only like 'Will you be active? Y/N' lol. I understand the FCs that do want to accomplish things and organize raids in a manner that's convenient for all members and one way to find that out is to sort application form, etc, though. So yah. I'm sure you can find an FC that's casual and laidback which I presume is what you want Have fun.

My FC uses an application system for recruitment, and I can't imagine doing it any other way. And we are not a hardcore group.

The thing you have to consider is that when you spend time with anyone is this game, you are taking up their time as well as your own. People just like to make sure they are going to recruit people who will not only fit in socially with their group but will be competent and committed so their play time is not wasted.

Screening applicants helps ensure you are recruiting the type of people you need for your FC. Some have a more intensive process then others, but overall it is a pretty reasonable thing to ask people to do imo.

Our FC uses applications for recruitment. We're a multi-game community, and the only real way for people to participate in the actual community (because not everyone is playing FFXIV) is through the website and forums. It also allows us to keep tabs on how long someone has been with the community, do an initial screen to see if they're a general fit for our type of attitude, and track how active they're being in the community for promotional purposes.

For certain games we have scheduled events (like raids) in a community calendar there too. So.. overall, for us it's important for members to use the website, which means applying.

While I don't really like filling out applications, the aim is basically to weed out people who would just join on a whim and leave the next day. So it's not necessarily about the application itself, but more to see if you really want to put in some effort to join.

If you only want an FC for people to chat with and get FC buffs, there are plenty of those out there and they are typically shouting on servers for members just handing out invites.

If an FC is asking for an application and you don't understand why, then you probably wouldn't be a good fit in there anyway so no need to worry about that.

There are endgame-focused FCs that look to recruit capable/experienced endgame raiders who also can show up to their particular scheduled events. In order to determine such things, an application process is the most effective method.

Sure, it's a video game but you don't need to just have a knee-jerk reaction without putting any thought into this. It serves the same purpose job applications in real life do - filtering out people who wouldn't be a good fit for your group for whatever reason.

Like other have said it have a lot to do with drama and time you play. I know my ls you apply then you join mumble and see how you fit with everyone else. If you can't take sarcasm Then your not really a fit for the FC also it to see what time you play on. So the FC can build other party for coil and such. But pretty much most FC is like applying for a job and i understand why they have that many FC that just let anyone in don't really do much. Most of the time there a core group of people doing stuff. The rest are just there doing noting and when you ask for help or a coil party it hard to get one of most open FC.

Not saying that all open FC are like that but a big % are.
