    Relic weapons should have been soul gems, what do you think?

    One thing that bugs me about relic weapons, and all gear, is they don't actually enhance the job in any manner. I tried to think of how they might enhance the jobs, but then the problem comes, as it did with WoW's legendaries, and XI's Relics - people want to keep them longer than they should. Suppose the paladin shield increased blocking by 10% more, or the warrior axe increased healing received by 10% (or 5, just numbers), or the whm relic added a hate-less hot to every heal for 10%. People might not want to take that off when new content came out with better weapons, or other weapons (An alternative warrior axe might increase defense by 10%, for instance, but the warrior might feel healing received was better, even if the new axe had better damage).

    But we've got these silly soul gems that are unique. We'll probably have them until the day each of us can no longer play. Perhaps, in the future, other gems for the same job could be fused together.

    I would like to see some gear enhancing the strengths of our jobs. Since we can't gearswap, it would never get out-of-hand quite like XI did (three different sets to cast a single spell) and would never become so cumbersome on inventory.

    I have heard briefly that the gear did have some unique stats and I can't imagine why they'd remove it. It just.... all feel so bland.

    The only reason my warrior isn't interested in my paladin's valor [x] is because it doesn't say warrior on it...

    ...and that is silly. Some pieces, like Cleric and Argute gloves, have identical stats.

    It would have been neat for relics to be gems, and be something truly unique to the job. Our weapons are only different because we can't use other job's weapons. There's nothing actually unique about them.

    I totally agree with this sentiment...

    I would have loved to see the equivalent of an XI relic in this game.

    I believe they said somewhere they'd start adding more interesting bonuses for gear later on.
    Something like job bonuses with gear sets. Sounds like what you're asking for.

    Personally I don't like the idea of switching weapons at all. I'd like if my relic for any job stayed with me forever and just got upgraded through the course of the game.
    Maybe later on it enhances the the job as well with bonuses.
    I'm a bit sentimental. I feel like you should bond with your weapon and not just for the sake of turning it into a materia.

    Discarding your weapon for something shinier is just ridiculous to me.
    Gear can change, weapons shouldn't.

    You pretty much just want the stats that 1.0 relics had on them, much the way stats were on alot of gear in 1.0. They changed it so people wouldnt get to confused when picking gear out in 2.0 lol.

    Uniqueness is too stressful and complicated. They mentioned the possibility of adding unique stats but they've also promised things that we're just now getting next month like item sorting, but you know it's Final Fantasy so there's nothing wrong with that, none at all.

    The AF gear in 1.23 had bonus stats like for bard increased song duration or song potency.

    The Relic system for weaponry could be and or should be adapted to armor at some point. As you know, the current relic weapons can be upgraded to +1 version (lvl 90 gear). That is currently the only path we can take with it. What if, after every other lvl gear upgrade (say the fictional Gear level 100 and 120) Allow the user to complete another difficult quest line obtaining certain items, fusing certain soul gems or something to upgrade the Relic weapon (and later on armor) into a Relic +2 and +3. Each upgrade changes the base stats by either adding to them or adding a whole new stat. The +3 upgrade for example could instead of adding stats, add 2 Materia slots.

    not to mention that uprade +2 and +3 would change not just stats of the item but also the looks. This way the relic weapon and maybe later on Relic armor, could still benefit at later levels. Just 1 thing to remember, it should not be an easy quest line that can just be completed in a few days, instead it should be a quest line that will even take the best Free Company out there maybe 4-5 weeks to complete. Which would include tome farming, beating certain bosses in certain difficulty levels (think beating Coil turn 5 in hard mode, but then finding out that was not good enough and now you have to beat Coil turn 5 in Extreme mode + fusing a gem during the whole fight.. basically giving your group 1 less member to deal with the fight, but the group has to keep the member alive as they fight and he fuses his gem.)

    Unless they make +1 relic harder to get, or even relic itself, I'd disagree. I want this sure, but with the way things are anyone can get a relic in a day, much less then that.

    They recently changed it in WoW to allow you to use legendaries in transmogrification (make gear look like something else). This allows you to continue to use your legendary equipment even after you have replaced it.

    It would be nice to see set bonuses or something on gear. WoW had set bonuses and trinkets which weren't just additional stats but would be things like "Your healing spells heal an additional 6% over 6 seconds" or "Your Aetherflow has a 30% chance to grant an additional charge."
