It's complete bull shit and they need to sort it out.

SE, we are not children, you do not have to "protect" us from other group members talking trash through tell.
Let me give you an example, let's say you Q up for a dungeon with an FC member or two, now if you meet someone who is terrible at their role you do one of three things ...
A. Talk to them and try to get them to do better.
B. Yell at them like a fool hoping somehow shaming will bring about change.
C. Trash talk them to your FC mates but say nothing to the person themselves.
Now, most people go with B or C, and it is a shame, but you see the point, people ALREADY trash talk players, you all blocking tells changes nothing. People WILL be teased, they WILL be harassed, you only make things harder on those of us who DONT harass players.
No tells in a dungeon, pfft, SE I would like you to keep in mind that right now, DCUO, an MMO that can't hold a candle to this one, is better than yours right now communication wise...that's a true shame.
I'm bumping this to keep it on the front page because I want another response. The last I heard it was completely possible and they had just "masked" the ability. Also the response about protecting us from harassing tells in Duty Finder blah blah blah. I want to be able to send tells and I want a real update on this.
I'm fairly certain that "Not being able to harass someone" is just a PR excuse. Hopefully they will implement it in the future.
Since most of the game is instanced, this limitation means that we cannot talk to most of our friends most of the time. For a MMO, a "social" game by essence, I find it to be very problematic. It actually makes it difficult for us to keep in touch with others. The game made some people I know (very good friends) more apart than they were close, before the game started. Simply because they can't talk to each other, and spend a lot of time within the game. This decision to limit talking is bad, it needs to be reversed.
Being limited from chatting with friends for a HUGE part of the day makes this a very unsocial game. Its one of the reasons I find I am slowly moving away from the game, I don't want to necessarily party with all my friends at the same time but I would like the ability to be able to talk to them. I find I spend a lot of time roaming around doing the mundane daily stuff bored beyond belief because online buddies are in and out of dungeons etc.
Telling us it is to protect us from harrassment is a joke, every other game I play I can talk to my mates non stop and funny enough we don't get whisper spammed to the point it spoils the game for us. I hope they change their mind on this before I die of boredom and quit the game![]()
Yes this should be fixed. Even in FFXI I can send tells while in instances. Salvage, Skirmish, Delve, Nyzul, BCNMs all instanced areas yet I can still send tells to people.
That wouldn't explain why you can't send tells to other people in the same instance as you. It's just SE having yet another case of the stupids.I think the reason we can't send tells is because they don't allow cross server chat. When you use duty finder, you're actually put into a different server. I think that's why we can actually party up with people on other servers. Until they let cross server chat happen, i doubt they'll allow tells or whispers sadly. But i agree, it would be a nice feature.
seriously this shit is dumb and needs to happen already
Added this last night, I think this solves it.
Tells from friends and party members should be on by default because people won't even know its an option otherwise.
Tells from others should be off simply because of spammers.. and of course the random guy asking every whm online if they'll come heal his fight.
