Why are you not a tank?

I think a lot of DD classes rolled healers to get shorter queues. So in order to deal with the longer wait times on my scholar I started gearing up a paladin. I find the pressure on the tank is about equal to that on the healer, it's just different. Without amazing gear yet I find pulling and clearing trash a lot more stressful as the tank, but most boss fights are pretty relaxing.

I'm glad I already know the zones and bosses though, I admire any tanks that have the courage to walk into a zone completely blind with elitists in a group.

Funny I ending up switching to tanking in my last MMO due to not being able to stand being a DPS. I find trying to manage endgame DPS rotation & number games both stressful and not very interesting; I've just got no drive to get those big numbers. I'm a very reactionary, in the moment type player so tanking is actually my favorite role and DPS my least favorite.

I usually end up at least reading up on new dungeons unless I'm doing it with people I know that all want to blind run it. No one loves an uninformed tank

This might be a silly reason, but I don't really care to play as a tank due to the end game gear. I don't mind the play style or pressure of tanking. But, the Heavy Darklight Gear is so fugly. I like the AF gear since it clean and an iconic look, but that is just going to get you set for the level 45+ dungeons.

When the implement the vanity slot and I can have my own look I will consider tanking.

Currently I am running low level stuff to clear out gear I have accumulated other wise I would likely not have leveled war past 26.

I already geared up MNK and SMN because my friends (who have all quit by now) were all playing tanks. Gearing up another class is literally just a weekly chore, so I play actual games on 3DS instead of doing chores every week to gear another class.

As a war, all I can say is spam overpower for your first few gcds in a pack. Buff up, overpower, use enmity combo when around half TP and steel cyclone and flash. You'll keep hate. And you'll be able to adjust how many overpowers etc as you go along and get a feel for the enmity each job pulls and such.

EDIT: Tanking, especially as a war, while keeping hate and doing as much dps as possible, is incredibly fun. Once you get the hang of it of course.

I like being the protector. I don't mind the grief I sometimes get.

I love me some speed runs but if I don't think my healer (I pug a lot) can handle it, I go easier on them. I like being the guy that gets to make that choice, because I am the quintessential Nice Guy Tank. I will get back up and go at it again and get some newbies the win.

As DPS, I don't feel like I have very much sway over the battle. I can't do much to really help the group and I dislike that. Tanking or Healing lets me do that.

I leveled PLD a lil while back to make my AK queue times faster and I really like it... but there are some DPS that make me not even want to touch PLD again. Mark mobs and people still want to do their own thing it sucks. And people wonder why we have a lack of tanks in the game.

most people don't want to be tanks because they don't want to be responsible if the party wipes even if it's not their fault.
