Funnily enough, there's not enough customization at character creation.

I'm trying to create for myself an elezen that's at least somewhat tough looking, if not a bit vampire-ish in appearance, but all I end up with is a Sephiroth clone, someone from a geriatric ward, or...well, I'm not sure how to describe it, but it looks terrible. The elezen has no scowl.

I'm trying to create this character's brother, a soldier and skilled warrior who's actually fairly aggressive. I know that Final Fantasy has a plethora of bloodthirsty prettyboys, but I'm not terribly fond of that image. His physique is fine, emphasis a bit more on lithe movements than brute force but still containing a lot of arm strength. But...well, the face is impossible to reconcile. The problem is that the eyes are too soft.

You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please everyone all the time .............. or something like that. Besides the cat butt thread and request for long hair (which I'm sure is in the near future), I haven't that many threads complaining about lack of features. But give it a couple more patches, and maybe they'll develop the Mario stretch-your-face feature eventually.

Not to mention the Beauty Salon / Barber Shop is on the way in 2.1.
I want longer pigtails is all I'm asking.

You clearly haven't seen of heard of the designers for FFXI and or FFXIV.

They're very very particular in terms of restricting the look of things, giving people complete freedom is something they're known for.

For example when Yoshi-P asked (whichever team) about having the players ride without a saddle on the courel mount, the designers refused. The consistency of the world and how things look is extremely important to them.

Another example would be the upcoming vanity system which will restrict 'vanity options' to certain pieces of gear and class-restrictions.
(EG ; A paladin won't be running around in Allagan gear that's been vanatied to look like the Black Mage Artifact Gear)

Body sliders (especially fat, shoulders, leg length) affect the over-all look of gear so this would never change, adjusting things like height is easy, however their current restrictions make it an easier system to expand upon (in terms of creating new gear/hairstyles, weapons). (These restrictions also helps reduce memory consumption and packet transfers for character data. The less data the faster it sends, having complex information about body/head-size values increases this).

It is not because they are not keen on customisation,PS3 limitations, Remember that.

ThePplaystation 3's limitations are based on memory constraints, vanity slots for gear wouldn't affect this.

However in terms of apperance options, the development team already expressed this was set-up to reduce packet sizes, it wasn't a decision entirely based on the PS3's memory restrictions.

The 'complete' freedom I mentioned was based off of the fact that the designers restrict things to follow a set 'in-world cannon', giving the players creative freedom to an extent where it affects their original designs doesn't bode well with them, they prefer a set design for most things (hence why I said vanity slots will have heavy restrictions).

It's also the reason we can't dye our AF gear.
