I don't really post often on the main forum but I had an idea that could potentially help out satisfy two areas of player wants: greater customization of battle classes and the increased demand for crafted items. This idea may not be so unique as it relates to FF9 and can be an alternative to something like Merit Points from XI.

As many of you know FF9 characters learned abilities and traits through gaining AP while using specific gear. My idea is to have a similar situation and link it to Spirit bond. Instead of converting this gear to materia you will gain a trait, ability, enhancement, weapons kill, etc. Obviously there should be caps and players will choose which they want to learn that is geared to their play style.

How does this relate to DoH? These are ultra super difficult recipes and this weapon/ armor can only be obtained through crafting. Thus, making it more desirable and lucrative to level a crafting job.
