it sounds to me all they are doing is changing from game mode to tv mode to watch a program or whatever while afk.

If they're on PS3, then Pendragon is probably right.

On the PC, there's actually a configuration setting to allow you to continue to control your character with a gamepad while in another window: System Configuration > Gamepad Settings > Keep gamepad enabled when client is inactive.

You can summon the XMB with the PS button. That's about the closest you can get to alt+tabbing on the PS3.

It switches the controller priority though, so you wouldn't be able to do anything in game until you tabbed back. E.g. if you were mashing X in game when you opened the XMB, you'd just end up selecting the PS3's menu items (settings, achievements, etc.).

The only thing you could actually do without looking at the screen would be fishing because you can turn the rumble on so you know when to hook a fish, but there's nothing you can 'button mash' or 'tape' to technically play while not there.

This just sounds like you've swallowed someones bull and then decided you didn't like the taste so wanted to report them without even thinking about if it was technically possible. Sorry if that's overly sarcastic but it's just a bit of a facepalm situation because you can't bot on the PS3, you still have to interact with it even if multitasking and not fully concentrating on the game.

Certainly nothing to worry about, there's nothing about the PS3 version which is an advantage over the PC, we're at the disadvantage which can be summed up in a single command....... focustarget

I apologise if the sarcasm came across as 'overly hostile', that was not my intention, but generally most gamers (even strictly PC gamers) know how the consoles work and fully know there's nothing that could be an advantage with console gaming vs PC gaming.

But why pursue the original person? They were obviously just trying to wind you up and have done just that. If I reported everyone that talked crap in game I'd report 35% of the server lol (percentage exaggerated for comedy purposes).

Again I apologise for my assumption you would have some console knowledge and will give you a heads up on future 'user generated Add-ons', these will not be available for the PS3 or PS4, so 3rd party programs and mods would only ever be an advantage for PC users and there's no way to gain an advantage on the consoles as originally described to you.

Yea Ps3 can't multitask for crap, you can hit the PS button while playing and send a friend a PSN message while the game runs in the background, but you can't still control the game when you have the menu screens up.

Maybe the Ps4 will have the ability to watch a movie while playing a game or something, doubt it will have windows you can min/max/ place side by side etc though, so probably not.

Idk, be kinda nice to surf the web and play but with two windows up they would have to make some priority system so that the controller could switch which window it functioned in.

PC user here, I also use a controller on the pc set up, specifically n xbox 360 controller I'm sure it pretty much is the same setup as the ps3 controller. You can alt tab away and multitask on the web with the game running in the back ground. The only remotely thing I've heard talked about is fishing while watching netflix or something, and that's b/c you don't have to run to multiple nodes n such after your gathering attempts go away. The controller has a vibration function, and you can technically fish while not even paying attention to the game. Stand in spot cast same bate over and over again. I don't imagine this to be feasable to do while doing botany, or mining even due to you can't stand in the same spot and keep harvesting or mining over and over unlike fishing. But I really hope they don't change fishing, it's fine the way it is just wish it would be more useful in the long run!

So PS3 can alt tab off screen, whilest keeping the button mashed, watch a movie or tv, and farm whatever they want?
This is kinda botting to me, as they dont really have to spend time ingame.
I havent tested if it works for Pc..and i wont i think as it would defy a game made to be played activly...in my opnion.

I nearly reported a PS3 player, who was doing that. Gladly he later explained the mechanics to me (PC user). So i apologized and moved here to see if it is working as intended or and oversight.
