Deep Vigor and Mining

I never find a use for Deep Vigor when mining. The only case were I saw it have an effect was in leves where the chance of getting an item was not 100%. And Deep Vigor only works after chain 4. For some reason a lot of the leves stuff for mining allows you to gather up to six items per node.

In real gathering though, I can have a 100% chance of getting everything from the node. I get to chain 4 (with some nodes), and Deep Vigor highlights but the node is mined out. So I see no practical use of Deep Vigor other than assuring you can finish you winning streak (if you had one) on nodes in a mining leve.

Maybe someone else knows of a practical use for Deep Vigor besides leves?

Unspoiled nodes have 6 whacks, so it's useful there.

In fact given the ludicrous amount of Perception required for even 1% chance at Unspoiled nodes, I prefer to rely on getting one (Eventually two) strikes of Deep Vigor instead of hoping that the HQ CoS will be in my favor

Yeah, I just figured that out. And like Skies said, it at least gives you a chance of getting one HQ item from the deposit too. I'm kind of disappointed though with the stuff available to a level 50 miner. I feel like even with buffs you don't get enough advantages. And most of the stuff doesn't sell very well except gold. I find astral rock and volcanic rock salt are too cheap. I use income from my miner to help get the best equipment for my classes. Since my crafters haven't hit level 30 yet I check the market for the current crystal prices and mine the ones going for the best rate. I'm able to buy HQ stuff right now for all my higher level classes and craft some stuff for the lower level ones. Crystal clusters can go for a higher rate but they don't always seem to sell well. And darksteel ore isn't worth as much as it should be. People know the schedule that the deposits will appear in Eorzean time.

Deep Vigor is useful for the gathering levels since all those nodes have 6 uses and you can use Deep Vigor to gather the 'hard' gather which is worth more points. For actually getting stuff, no, there isn't much use for it.

In general, there just isn't very much use for even the high 40s item because you make so few of those items, not to mention the shard cost is extremely high.

Here's another usage for Deep Vigor...
- Find a mining node that has the special ability "Gathering Attempts +1".
- Start the node and hit the vein that you want to mine at least once.
- Use Solid Reason to restore +1 to gathering attempts.
- Continue mining the vein and hope you get to Chain #4. It helps if your gathering chance is 100%.
- On the last stroke, Deep Vigor should light up. Click it to activate it.
- Then mine that vein one last time with HQ 100% activated.

Note that this takes at least 300 gathering points. If you have more, you can combo with something like Bountiful Yield to get two HQ items on the last strike.

And... I find that this doesn't always work. You need to be mining something where you normally would run out of strikes just as Deep Vigor lights up, in order for Solid Reason to give you the one more that you need.
