Except it's NOT equipped, unless you're currently on that class. Only one set is ever equipped. Sets are just that, sets. They're not equipped until you change to the class.

And it won't happen. The idea isn't to make storage management non-existent. For the average player, 25 slots per category is plenty. I play everything, have everything at 50. I have a set for every class AND job. That's 28 sets, and with Relics being job only, 28 Weapons/Tools. I really have no issue with chest space, and I even keep 2 weapons in my normal inventory. I've never had an issue with throwing out something on accident.

But I want the game to manage my inventory for me. Im pretty sure every rpg I have ever played sorted my inventory for me allowing me to easily keep track of things.
Edit: And yes I have attempted to organize my armoury chest myself but have quit because its pointless. Early on I tried organizing it by roles. Had top line as DoW, then DoM, crafting, gathering. All separated and easy to tell what was what. Well the problem is as you change classes or jobs the items dont return to where you had them but to where the items that replaced it was. So after changing jobs a few times everything was scattered all over the place again in my armoury chest.

Once you have everything at 50, it's really not an issue. I have several classes at different levels. I have several levels of gear saved for common classes. Every level of gear I have used for a level 27 botanist, I need to save for miner and fisher, as they are not at the same level. The same applies for DoH, and I have 5 classes in progress and others I haven't started. So I need to save multiple levels of that gear as well. Add a few different DoW and DoM, and you start playing the armory organizing game more than the actual game itself. And it won't happen. The idea isn't to make storage management non-existent. But thank you for telling us what will and will not happen. the suggestion was for SE, not for you. I think I'll let them decide.
