I don't know why you guys have update problems

WoW is P2P and it updates super fast for me, FFXIV on the other hand is slow as hell. Yes I have ports open before anyone asks, direct download servers can we have them.

I don't trust SE's ability to maintain a direct download that won't be brought to its knees the second a patch goes live. Perhaps that is what's going on with their tracker, as one major difference between Utorrent and the SE client is that Utorrent isn't allowed to use SE's tracker, yet we seem to have much better success without it ^^;

SE GIVES you the torrent file.

Yes they give you the torrent because the patcher requires it, they dont however give you utorrent which is the third party software and they dont want you to use.

Goes without saying, so all the more reason to add direct download servers.

They tried this with ffxi and didnt have enough throughput for the amount of users and people were getting kicked from updates which is why they chose the P2P option, because P2P is cheaper than having to add bandwidth and therefore throughput if what they have gets overwhelmed by demand

People have been using uTorrent to patch since Alpha. I highly doubt S-E cares. When they say third-party program, they mean things like windower and bots, things that give people an unfair advantage. Not patching through torrents. If it was against the ToU, you wouldn't see fansites like ZAM and FFXIVCore that had threads on how to patch by using torrents. A lot of stuff got removed at S-E's request, but that was never one of them.

But if you have limited seeders due to player populace, plus the fact that when a person reaches 100% it removes them from the seeder list you have to some how supplement the other downloaders no ?

It would be less of an issue if people could continue to seed after reaching 100%.

You are right even zam have something that you can download the patch but have to pay 2.50$ a month for there member thing but that was around alpha.

It would but it would still require them to keep adding bandwidth when subscribers increase, and if they ditch the direct download when they get more subscribers it would be a waste of resources to pay for the extra bandwidth and servers to give us updates

We did, and i think everyone would like that sort of speed from SE which is why people keep posting to attempt to get the SE patcher changed, which is all we can do we dont need rift this and rift that rammed down out throats on every page

The problem is that i get that speed from a a new game with 0 expecatation, and 150mb downloaded after 5 hours from that game that hyped me from when i saw it's presentation at the e3 ...

Well, if they want to ban people from their already diminished userbase because people are trying to get what little content additions there are in a timely manner, more power to them. That seemed like a pretty canned response, though.
