I don't know why you guys have update problems

I've never had a problem with the official xiv updater. It has never taken me more than 30 mins to do an update. Maybe it is something wrong with your internets or something I've never had to open my ports or anything but people tell me it is suppose to help. Try it!

I had problems by beta time and right after launch; I knew there was something going wrong so I started to search the internet for information/solutions. A friend of mine told me about port-forwarding (msp?) and just tried to do my best at it (you know, I'm not an expert at technical issues). No problems since then.
All I have to take into account is to check my IP address (changing from time to time) ensuring that matches last one typed on modem Security configuration. That takes me about 2 minutes... (and once more, I'm not an expert).

Because every patch people flood the forums with complaints about the updater that they can fix themselves.

I assume anyways. Since gloating about patch skills would be silly.

Currently the only option is to forward ports, which unless we know what router people are using we cannot help with because of the differant firmware differant routers have.

This option however is poor because some people wont have access to the router, like people who live in University accomodation so cannot forward the ports needed to get remote connections.

Either SE need to change the ports used to a range that people would have open or they need to offer a direct download option, both would prevent this problem of slow downloads.

2. I wasn't trying to help the situation, just answer some jerks question.

3. I never said "mine works! Why doesn't yours?" Nor did i imply it.

4. Everyone is aware that a lot of people are still having problems. I was, and still am, under the assumption that the end users can fix their own problems except in extreme circumstances.

5. The post you linked says "the patch system is not performing as well as it should be" that could mean almost anything.

6. Why has the internet made everyone such a tool? I include myself in that obviously. But still, if i said these posts to someone in real life and they could see my smile and my retardedly large eyes it wouldn't have garnered a snotty response. Such is the world i suppose. SE seems to go out of their way to force clunky, inelegant clients upon us. While I'm happy to be rid of playonline, we're left with a labyrinthine account management system and a hopeless updater.

Last night I got 15% of the update with the official client in 30 minutes. I closed it, and downloaded the update to completion in 25 minutes via Utorrent. If Utorrent can do it with no user intervention, SE's client should be able to as well.
