Holy Shield +1 adds an extra 2% damage blocked over Holy Shield. If you just start out with Coil and barely have any Myth gathered yet, yes it might not be worth it...but right after the game came out and you already had your Relic from 1.0. The Holy shield was the biggest upgrade of all considering it's only 300 Myth. The stat upgrade from the shield isn't that large in that's what your going to argue, shields souley effect the effectiveness of block they don't add any base line defense, the allagan shield also drops from Turn 1 I believe so you could end up 'wasting' 300 myth fairly early in your Coil career.
Though TBH ALL the myth purchases outside of the Ring/Weapon are just whims, you can clear to Turn 5 in DL without much trouble so any Myth gear just 'help's but in no way bars you from not being able to complete the turns.
On the Sword matter. I prioritized other things over the Sword for a while. But the Sword definetely helps speeding up things during Coil, especially in Turn 4/5.
PS: Shiny Sword is also a good reason to upgrade it
PPS: PLD Tanks will barely notice any big difference with single item upgrades, but once you got several you can see the difference, especially when you compare it to other less geared Tanks. My Spirits Within(at full HP) and Fight or Flight crit for over 600. I'm only missing 3 Itemlvl90 pieces right now, got 6450HP in group w/o food. When you see other Tanks Spirits Within crit for barely 400 you know it's noticable![]()

It all depends on how you are gearing up. +1 Curtana is 600 myth. The next upgrade is allagan sword which is from turn 5, so imo it will be one of the first things I spend myth on. My whole myth upgrade plan is based on the same criteria, if it's a late allagan drop in coil (turn 4-5) then it's worth spending myth to upgrade those slots. By the same logic, shield is not worth upgrading to +1 because allagan shield drops in turn 1. The first myth item I bought was ring, I think it's a no brainer for every paladin since it's BiS.
For other people it will be different priorities. Maybe some won't be doing coil etc, they will have different upgrade choices. You have to decide for yourself.
more aggro you do more pace you set and more dpsers can nuke thus everything falls bit faster
Silly question. There is no comparison. The sword of shinee is +e-peen which far outweighs any benefits armor can bring.
More seriously, depends on the rest of your group. People play differently even if you have identical gear. If you're having threat problems, the sword is a very good buy. If you're not having threat problems, then go for armor. However if you have anywhere near competent DPS in equivalent gear to yours, the sword's going to be the better use of 600 myth.
As a WAR I have been saving up for Bravura +1, as I don't know what SE will do in the next patch.
After as someone said, its a matter of perspective. I personaly don't mind spending more time farming tomes, I am not in a gear/progression rush like most of the players.
As a lalafel PLD, I upgrade my relic to +1 for one and only reason. I want a shield that bigger than myself ;P (the old relic model for PLD, the shield will be larger than the user (lalafel only ;P) when use in combat stand, this was patch last month i think.) Plese SE bring back the relic model to the way it was. T_T

every class the relic +1 is better than any piece of gear
not true. if you need +1 as a paladin because your having trouble holding hate, your doing something wrong.
+1 shield is okay, but you should start with af2 chest or coordinate with the other tank if your in a static coil group.
