Exactly. Even running AK without being really on your game it is very hard to hold aggro against 2 geared out and +1 weapon dps that know their rotations.Recently my FC had to use an alt tank (PLD side of WAR main) for coil 1-4. That meant plain relic where normally we're accustomed to +1. It was a noticeable difference. DPS occasionally were threat capped, and you don't want that. Still won though.
As WAR myself there are times when you REALLY want every scrap of agro. Adds spawning mid-fight is biggest example (turn4, Cad split in turn1, Garuda clones). Also, if your DPS is REALLY good they can get threat capped/take agro on just single boss (ex: top shelf BLM going full burn with Foe Requiem). Pretty unusual for that to happen, but it's possible.

Allagan shield has ACC, and most PLDs in DL/Allagan/Myth gear are far over cap, even though the extra stat on Relic shield is SS it's still better to +1 it over using Allagan Shield plus Allagan Shield looks like a crappy pokeball. Bravura +1 is pretty much a waste with SS being on it and the 900 myth price tag also it glows pink, just wait till Allagan Axe. I can see Curtana +1 being useful, but honestly I'd upgrade all your armor before dropping the 600 on it, once you have every armor slot with ilevel 90 I'd go weapon before getting accessories since those will barely upgrade from DL to ilevel 90. I highly doubt a +1 tank weapon will ever make or break a raid group, and threat is a non-issue once you have base relic, even against +1 relic'd ilevel 90 geared DPS.

If you look at the mix of ilevel 90 Accessories compared to DL you lose a large amount of ACC when you make the switch, so if you want to keep the 472 cap, may be forced to use Allagan Axe, or always have ACC food, but I like to be ACC capped without buffs. I know right now, with Warrior Helm/Gloves, Allagan Chest/Belt, DL Flanch, DL Access + Myth Ring I'm at like 492 so if I start getting Myth or Allagan Jewelry I'll get close to dropping below that threshold. Allagan Axe could fix that problem![]()
The best upgrade for you is truly going to depend on the skill of your DPS, and the amount of gear that drops for them in your coil run. 3 Weeks in (we started playing in late Sept. We were way late to the party! :P) we've seen maybe 4 DPS drops. Out of those drops, I think half of them were for our Dragoon (OF COURSE!). I still have no problem holding threat. I can see that changing dramatically - especially on Turn 2 if you take the slashing debuff route and have a ton of piercing damage (Our blm and smn both switch to bard when we take the west route). I've found a fun way to test your threat is to do AK with your 2 best dps and see at what point you can AFK on the last boss and go make a sandwich!![]()
Generally this is the route you go. Agro = Relic +1 Mitigation = AF gear.

+1 weapon is a worthwhile upgrade when you're on turn 4. DPS really need to go all out in this fight, there's not much room to hold back for the sake of tanks. On top of this, tanks need to conserve resources, particularly the off-tank. This means threat margins can be very tight. The small boost in threat generation from a +1 curtana makes a very noticeable difference.
I was very reluctant to get my +1 weapon because stat wise other upgrades are nicer, but it changed my threat holding capability on turn 4 from shaky to solid. Though I thought I would, I don't regret it.


Holy Shield+1 is the single and biggest survivability upgrade you can get for the lowest Myth cost ever. You can't rely on the Allagan Shield to drop, not considering that it is NOT BiS...even if you get Turn 5 loot. It is not BiS period.
Any PLD should ALWAYS go for the Shield+1 first over ANYTHING.


I don't know where people get their information from, but look at the pieces, do the math and it is obvious in every single slot which is BiS
To make it simple
Weapon: Allagan Blade
Shield: Holy Shield +1
Head: Allagan Helm
Body: AF2
Hands: AF2
Legs: AF2
Feet: Heavy Allagan Flanchard
Waist: Allagan Plate Belt
Neck, Earring and Ring: Allagan pieces
Wrist and Ring: Hero pieces
Just compare Holy Shield +1 to Allagan. You gain 7 Acc and lose 7 Skill Speed. While Skill Speed is totally neglectable...it is still better than that 7 Acc, cause you don't neet it and will be capped for Turn 5. People just need to get their information right about Acc skill caps for Turn 5. It is a different cap for every single DPS, caster and Tank class.
