But yeah teamspeak3 is superior to both.

Super quiet at default settings, can't change audio input volume, no attenuation of other programs when people talk. I've always thought TS being the worst of the three. Haven't used Vent in many years now, though, so no idea what's it like nowadays.

They quietness was really a problem on my FC TS3 server at first. I had bump TS3 volume to maximum and lower the game's master volume and sound effects to 30% before I could clearly hear everyone talking.

Why this thread isn't locked yet is a mystery to me.
Honestly mumble/ts/vent whatever voice chat you use is up to the group you play with, they're all fine, and is just down to different preferences.

While im not an expert on this, this is the first time I ever heard of anyone get a virus trough connecting to a voice chat server, and I've been using the three forementioned ones(and some other ones) for over a decade soon, I suggest for the OP to get a proper virus scan and be wary about which links/websites you click or visit in the future, unless this is all a poor attempt at a troll thread.

I don't think SIP is proprietary. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Fonality and PBXtra also use SIP.

From what I understand, it's just another layer of the IP Suite that interfaces with all of the other application protocols and HTTP calls to transmit large and media heavy packets with minimal loss.

I'm not learned in application IP architecture, but SIP should just be a standard call out. It should be up to the client/host how they interpret the hand shake, sequencing, transmission, and termination.

Ah, my apologies. VoIP callouts always seemed to me as being overly convoluted for no particular reason.

Isn't the issue with Vent is that it has massive latency and they use outdated / silly codecs?

I did a bit of reading about Ventrilo to catch up a bit (I should have done this is the first place before going off half cocked) and their call outs seem ... inefficient.

Anyway, I meant no offense I was more curious about what exactly is proprietary on the Vent end than anything else.

Please beware of the links you are clicking on or copying and pasting into your web browser, you might want to download Avast(free verison is just as great as the paid one) or some other virus protection. Don't go around spreading lies about Ventrilo! (✖╭╮✖)

I know this was very stupid of me, But i got into a Raid group the other day and said they will only let me join if i use vent.

I was sent a link to d/l it so i did (I know im dumb) it was full of viruses, spyware and everything else u can think of.

no not a specific d/l linke they sent me a google link and i d/l'd it from the number 1 result.

So im guessing either ventrillo itself is full of spyware or they just made a dummy google result page and sent it to me? eh w/e it took a couple hours but my comp.y is all clean now so w/e lol

I went to a mumble site also got viruses too. It also tried to change my tool bar. I had to take my computer to someone to clean it up. I have used mumble since then but I never thought it was that good. I know that one guy laughed but we have always used skype.I am not a computer person so I always find its complicated to set up on those sites while skype was easy.
