Can anyone tell me definitively if there is a soft crit cap?

I have heard people say that there is, and others say that there isn't, but I've yet to see a source for either claim.

As far as the actual number for the soft cap, it varies from person to person, but the idea is that around 550+ crit stat, you experience vastly diminished returns, basically meaning that your actual critical chance is "soft capped" at around 17%.

I'm constantly doing research on SCH and I see this claim pop up all the time but, as i said, have never seen a source. So can anyone tell me for sure whether this is true or not, or at least link me to some testing? If it's not true then I wonder where the rumor comes from...

Don't know how it varies from class to class (if it does at all) but there's a BLM spreadsheet floating around that shows how crit scales as you add more. It actually jumps up higher at one point by adding the same amount of crit, but I don't think it would continue to scale higher as you add more.
