Is this possible? it's my first 50 gathering profession, are there any fishable items that I can sell for decent money?

Haven't ever looked at the Marketboard, and check out the Fish on sale yourself?
There are many that sell often (high demand) and sell for good gil, 300 - 500 is not uncommon. Then there's Sharks (flooded due to everyone going for them).
For starters: Vongola Clams, Razor Clams, Black Eel, Black Sole, Fullmoon Sardines, Raincaller...

As AylaYukihana is saying, there's plenty of gil to get from fishing if you are patient enough.
As for types of fish, I'll let you figure that out yourself.
Felis catus
No get rich quick schemes but there is gil to be made. I've sold fish that I had no clue why anyone would even buy, but tbey do. If you are 50 fisher you sbould have at least a vague idea as to what sells. If not, just spend some time browsing fish on the market board, it won't be long until you see something thats worth fishing/selling.
Perhaps not raw fish, and perhaps not huge amounts of gil. But if you pick up Culinarian as well you can make a nice little income selling stacks of Crayfish Balls and Goby Balls, and various seafood-based meals.
If you really want to make some gil, you will need to take 10-15 mins to research and study.
On the market board tab when opened, open up the fish tab so that you see all the fish on the market. Slowly check each one of the recent history transactions and study them. This will help you get your answers and get you what you want, which is gil. The price and demand of fish vary from server to server so you must do the extra work if you want to know what is a profitable fish on your server. What maybe profitable on your server may not really be on mine and so this is the best advice I can offer you.
Good luck!

You should also check a site to see if the fish is actually used to make anything or used in any leve. For example the HQ fish for the fishing leves probably sells decent since you get triple XP for turning in HQ fish, but you probably won't be able to find reliable demand since there are only so many people leveling fishing, and they don't need them after they're done leveling.
