So are any of the potions in demand at all at the moment?

I was having a look at the potions on the marketplace and it doesn't seem there's much demand at all for any of them right now. I figured maybe Coil raiders may be using some but I dunno. Is it like that on all servers? Or will it change once PvP is up?

There is very little demand for potions as far as I can see.
    • Mega potions duration is very short and cooldowns are rather long... so they are only really useful on those 'final push' moments when you want to increase your burst damage and hope to finish off the boss.

    • Hi-Elixirs are ridiculously expensive to craft unless you have a lot of extra tomes lying around and have nothing better to do with them.

    • HQ'ed Elixirs are somewhat useful and easy to make. I gave several stacks of these to LS members. But they are so easy to make that their value on the market doesn't even cover the cost of the shard required (at least on Gungnir).

Popping up Hi-ether is an alternative for BLM after casting Flare, but CD is rather long yo, like mikita said in first point.

We'll see a raise of demand on potions and food after pvp system introduced, I guess.
Yeah so before FFXIV ARR 2.1 hits i would say potions market suck big most of the time and CUL is a just-for-fun crafting class, you definitely won't get your money back in short time from it.

I thought maybe X-Potions or X-Ethers might have some use, but as you say the cooldown means it's probably a once-per-fight thing really, I thought possibly people might be taking them as a big boss attack hits to lighten the load on the healer. And their cost isn't too prohibitive, 1 batch of 10 filtered waters gives 30 x-potions.

And yeah, nine lime sulphurs for 3 hi-elixirs is kinda silly really.

For the cost of 9 lime sulphurs, I'd think hi-elixirs need to function like Megaelixirs traditionally in a FF game to justify the cost. Not that I expect that to happen (would render stuff trivial) but that's literally what they have to do to justify the cost.

A powerful concoction which induces profuse internal bleeding. Effective on most targets up to level 50. Effect: Poison Duration: 15s
    Item Level 50

    x5 Lightning Shard
    x6 Water Shard
    x1 Quicksilver 12
    x1 Ochu Vine
    x1 Pudding Flesh
Those are extremely helpful in boss fights to speed them along - also often very scarce on the marketboard due to Pudding Flesh only dropping in dungeons or from one Leve("Necrologos: Cinerary Rite" in Coerthas).

Potions overall don't seem worth using in this game other than the occasional healing pot or mana pot - the buff and resist potions only last 15s as well and trying to use one more often than not negatively impacts performing the hokey-pokey boss fight dances. Resist pots don't significantly reduce the damage of special attacks to make them at all worth the effort.

Craft as many of those as you can, they're selling like hot-cakes!

Earlier when the market was flooded with NQ X-Potions and X-Ethers from all the speed run chest drops they were being sold for 500 gil and under. What made it worse was the tome items were going for 70k+ then as well.

Now both situations have changed and people need the potions more than ever since they are starting coil groups pretty frequently. On Sargatanas the per-potion cost to make these is down to around 1.5k.

Plenty of people have gil to burn with nothing to spend it on. They don't need more lvl 70 gear because they are already working on lvl 90 gear that can't even be melded. Cooking and Alchemy are long-haul crafts that slowly pick up steam as the other crafts come to a crawl. That being said nobody will ever buy the god awful resist potions because they share a CD with all of the potions that don't suck. The only potions with any true value right now are Elixirs, Mega-Potions, Mega-Ethers, X-Potions, X-Ethers, Mega-Stat potions, and Potent Poisoning Potions.

Despite what many people will try to tell you, 650 HP every 1m48s from an HQ X-Potion is pretty significant. The HQ X-Ethers are arguably even better giving 530 MP to a healer during key moments. Or maybe it was 520, or 540. I can't remember right now.
